Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

I have a HDD that crashed that was in my custom rig. I am swapping in a HDD out of a Gateway PC. They both have Windows XP Home edition on them with SP3 updates. The problem is that the Windows XP version on the Gateway HDD does not have any of the drivers to recognize the Asus K8V motherboard. I can only boot up windows in safe mode and since it cant find the drivers for the ethernet controller on the K8V it cant access the internet. Since it cant access the internet it cant find ANY of the drivers it needs to work properly with my K8V. I have relocated into the Gateway and I am looking for a zip driver file for the Asus K8V so I can download it. I plan to then swap it back into the Asus K8V mobo computer and load the drivers in safe mode and then restart. The new drivers should then recognize the K8V mobo and allow me to update the drivers online. I need to know where I can find 32 bit drivers for Windows XP HE for an Asus K8V? I need to know if this proceedure is the right thing to do? I need any suggestions at all for continuing this fix? Thanks.

The link for the drivers are:
http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?SLanguage=en-us&model=K8V

And, Yes, it is completely safe to do that, but just make sure in the process of moving your HDD, do not send a static shock to it because it will fry it and make it lead to many failures. (This has happened to me before when I reformatted a computer and swapped it in computers)

SOURCE: I need to install drivers on an old HDD for an Asus K8V mobo.

Hi gordonal123, installing drivers through safe mode is not recommended. If you want windows to function correctly than do a fresh install of windows. Over writing the Gateway hdd will cause you more grief. Windows registry will go nuts.
Link to download the Asus K8V drivers.
http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?SLanguage=en-us
Here is what you need to do. Boot to your windows CD while using the Gateway system & hdd. Create a new partition within the free space of the Gateway hdd. (Follow windows onscreen instructions to create a new partition within the free space of hdd). (This will maintain the current windows function).
Restart windows when finished. Windows will create a second partition on the Gateway drive. Go to the Asus link above & download all the drivers for the K8V MB, onto the second partition of the Gateway hdd. Once downloaded & uncompressed into their own folders you can than boot to the windows CD & format the primary partition & install windows fresh onto the formatted partition. When finished you can install the K8V driver still located on the secondary partition. Copy & past these driver folders to your primary partition. Than use windows disk management software to erase / delete the secondary partition. (diskmgmt.msc).
When finished you'll have all the drivers for the K8V MB, no need to buy a PCI LAN card & more importantly a fully functioning windows with-out issues.

Good luck gordonal123!
Take your time.

My windows xp home edition has crashed and i have no recovery cd

Find a friend with either a "retail" Windows XP Home Edition CD-ROM disk,
or with an 'OEM' ("original equipment manufacturer") equivalent.

Use that disk, plus the 25-character product-key on the label on the side of your computer,
to reinstall Windows, or first to try to "repair" your installed copy of Windows.

Or, if you have a "brand-name" computer (Dell, HP, IBM, Lenovo, Acer, Gateway, eMachines)
telephone the manufacturer, and order a replacement "System Restore" set of CD-ROM disks.
Probably about $20, plus $20 for overnight-courier.

Cant activate windows xp home edition

Hi

Try and see what the BSOD says , when it suddenly reboots. Press F8 until it gives you a menu , go to advanced options or something similar highlight don't reboot or restart automatically.

Can you start your PC in safe mode. Try a crack although I wouldn't recommend it.

Gateway computer - cannot boot up--

At boot up press F2 and enter BIOS. Here check if your HDD is recognized. If yes Ten your Windows is corrupted and needs to be reinstalled. How to install and save your data follow the link below:
Crashed Windows : No Problem
If the HDD is not being recognized then run Auto Detect to recognize the HDD. If it works fine, if not then the HDD may need a change.
