I got a new laptop, but when i connected my mp3 player to it because i wanted to transfer some of my music, the laptop did not recognize it. i tried updating the firmware and changing the usb modes, but nothing worked. is there software that i need for installation? i do not remember needing to do anything special on my old computer for installation or anything. how do i get my new laptop to recognize my sansa e60 so i can sync and use my mp3 player? :(

First, you have songs into your computer. Then, plug the device to computer and use one of two ways to download music to your Sansa Clip:
1. Select songs you want transfer, drag & drop them into Music folder in the device.
2. Use Windows Media Player: plug device to pc, open windows media player, click on Sync tab, drag and drop songs selected to Sync List space (on the right side of wmp), click on Start Sync button to transfer.
Connect Sansa to computer
Double-click "My Computer" icon
Double-click Sansa icon (shows up as "Removable Drive" on some computers)
Select Tools --> Folder Options --> View --> check "Show Hidden Files and Folders"
Double-click Music folder
You should see your music files
Right-click your desktop and create a New Folder - name it some useful name
Drag a music file from the Sansam usic folder to this new folder you have created no your desktop --> it should copy the file to this new folder you have created
You need to synch them to Rhapsody or whatever music service you pulled the songs from. also, make sure your music service subscription supports transfer to portable devices instead of simple transfer to a computer.
You cannot transfer from the player to the computer - sorry. The follwoing is the method you would use, but it won't work: Try this - connect your mp3 player to computer --> double-click on My Computer --> double-click on the icon of the mp3 player --> double-click on the music folder --> drag and drop the music files to a folder/desktop of your own choosing
I hope this info would help:
Your Sansa E260 has 2 modes: MTP (Music Transfer Protocol) and MSC (Mass Storage Class). Your Operating System recognizes each mode differently, and music files saved in one mode would not be seen when you switch to the other mode, and vice versa.
Try switching to each of these modes, then plug it to your computer and browse the player. To switch modes, use the following menu navigation:
Menu >> Settings >> USB Mode
This would give the choice of MTP and MSC.
