Blue Ghost from Defective Blue

I own a Samsung Rear Projection HDTV 1080i
Serial Number HCM 4216x
Svc HCM4216xx/xac
type # CM4 2X5
120 V 60 HZ 240 WATTS.
We are experiencing a colour differentation across the top of the
screen in the form of an arc. The image above this arc line is tinted
yellow,, while the rest of the screen is as it should be. I'd like to
know if there's a part I can obtain and replace without having to call
repair, most of whom want min $300,00 to fix.
I have a picture of what the screen looks like but can't attach it to
this message.

This is the convergence IC's that are causing this and if you can replace them( unsoldering and soldering them ) then going to an electronic parts store to get your IC's for your set is what you will need to do , here is an example of the convergence IC's http://www.nteinc.com/specs/7100to7199/pdf/nte7178_81.pdf
if you need further assistance then just let me know and i will help
otherwise hope this info is at least worth a fixya

if you have never soldered then you will want to practice before doing a repair like this , also practice removing solder from a broken device or board with some solder wick

you will have to look at the numbers on your chips that are on a big heat sink , to get the matching or upgraded chip set , they will look like the example IC's link that I gave you , so finding them will not be hard at all, just the removal of them

You will need to replace both convergence Ics and the pico fuses that blow when the Ics fail. You can get the replacement Ics and pico fuses from www.tvreairworld.com they also provide free tech support to help you install them

2003 Samsung HDTV 1080i 42" wide screen has just developed picture problems distorted and red. Almost looks 3D. MODEL NO.:HCN4226WX/XAC SERIAL NO.: 37083CEX400297E

This is a convergence problem and can easily be fixed either by resoldering the pins on the convergence ICs or by replaceing them if they prove to be defective. Can you solder? Do you feel confident in replacing these parts?

2006 42'' Samsung rear projection, Balist????

A Ballast is a circuit that provides voltage to Lamp. Ballasts are only used with TV's with a Lamp. According to your model number this unit does not use a lamp. That model number uses 3 rear-projected CRTs. The most common units with a ballast would be a DLP HDTV.

The Model number you specified HCN4226W is a unit made in 2003. However you stated in your subject line that this was a Samsung unit from 2006. Please verify your model number.

OEM or better quality for durable repair. I use Panasonic brand.
