There are many possible video devices that you may have in your system, go to the link below and go to where it says video. download and install each one until you install the right driver.

A few problems with my dell 9150. 1 Windows boots up but screen shows garbled then turns black and monitor into power save mode. I tried a complete system recovery, still the same.

I would try starting up in VGA mode (tap F8 at the splash screen and choose VGA mode from the menu)

VGA mode will load very few drivers and a generic video driver into Windows. From there you may be able to go to a website and download the latest (or even rolled back) drivers. Or you can uninstall and reinstall the drivers from the Device Manager (in the control panel)

This article from microsoft provides a little more detailed information:

No video output from atapi dvd rw after OS reinstall, cd rw ok

>> VGA controller (vga compatible) error in the device manager

Windows has not found a "good" device-driver for the "integrated" video-controller on your motherboard; it is using the "generic" adapter.

So, trying to download the "SIS Mirage Graphics" software is an attempt by Windows to download a "specific" device-driver that matches your video-adapter hardware.

You might try installing an add-in video-card, to see if Windows will install the correct device-driver, and still boot-up correctly.

Otherwise, take the computer to a qualified technician, for trouble-shooting about your boot-up problem.

Have another computer dell desktop not this one,it boots up and shows windows xp logo and then the screen goes completely black and cannot get into any thing

Possibly it is a video driver problem. Try entering boot menu by pressing the F8 key at startup, and first of all try with "Boot in last known working configuration". If it doesn't solve the problem, retry booting in safe mode and change the video resolution to 640x480 VGA. This will look horrible, but if it lets you reboot and login as Administrator in normal mode, you will be able to reinstall the video drivers from Dell (either the CD-ROM or the web site). At that point you will be able to raise the resolution again.

If it still doesn't work you might need a recovery install of XP, which sometimes messes with some programs' configuration.

Ethernet Controller is missing

You are unable to use the Ethernet, VGA etc. because you have not installed the drivers for the same.

You might have received a Drivers CD(it will read "Drivers and Utilities") which will be in blue color, when you got the computer from Dell.
In case if you haven't received it you can contact Dell on 1-800-624-9897 and request for a Driver CD. I guess this Dimension model is @ End of Life (I mean no more produced by dell) you might have to download the drivers from Dell's support site (www.support.dell.com) you will have to get it downloaded on a different computer and copy on a CD or a Flash drive.

Once you got all the drivers. First extract them in a separate folder

Go to Device manager
Right click on the Ethernet controller (where you see a yellow exclamation)
Click update drivers
Show the path where you have the driver files

Whenever you see your motherboard screen, start pressing F8 key.

Advance mode menu will appear->choose Enable VGA mode->Boot to the desktop>

Go to device manager->uninstall and reinstall driver for display adapter.

Reboot the machine and your issue would be fixed

I want install vga and sound drivers for dell p4

First you need to obtain the service tag off of your dell desktop, it is usually a sticker on the back of the unit and it should be a seven digit number. Also if you have it installed, you can also pull up Dell Accessories, which you can access by going to Start --> All Programs --> Dell Accessories. Once you get the service tag, go to this site --> http://support.dell.com/support/index.aspx?~ck=pn. Click on Drivers & Downloads, put in your service tag number. Once you have done so then you will see the model of your dell and a whole list of drivers that came bundled with that particular model, you should find the necessary VGA and sound drivers there. Hope that this helps.....

Accidentally disabled graphics

Turn on the Pc & as it starts press the F5 key every 2 seconds. A window will open with a list of start options. Select VGA mode. You'll have to use your keyboard's up & down arrows here. Press enter to load VGA mode. Once in windows re-in able
graphics driver. Re-start windows. If that fails. Repeat the above to get back into windows. Re-install video drivers. Than restart the system.
Post back if your still having trouble.
