This could just be a glitch, try resetting the ipod by following the instructions on the link below

My screen broke and I am unable to change my settings. Is there any way ui can get a picture of the mode settings?

holding the MODE button will return you to the main screen. They are Music-Movie-Picture-Setting. You should be on the Music screen first. Pressing down will take you through these in order. Under Setting is LCD set, Language, online device, memory info, firmware, remove mtp info, default, exit.
While in Music (as long as you are not playing a song) tapping the MODE button will give you the option of going to the local folder or exit.
If you play a song and press MODE you are given the following options Play Mode, Equalizer, SRS WOW Mode, and exit.
Under Play mode are the options, Normal, repeat one, folder, repeat folder, repeat all, random, and intro.
Under Equalizer is flat, rock, pop, classic, soft, jazz, DBB
Under RS WOW mode is srswow, user setting, disable srs wow and exit.
I hope this is what you were looking for.

Ipod 4th gen nano is frozen on the language selection screen.

That could be one of two problems: Either the cord of the click wheel has been disconnected from its socket which will be an easy fix and you only have to pay labor, or you may just need a new click wheel which should still be cheap.

I've u[pdated the iTunes software.

Hello, does your clickwheel function well.
if not your center button may not be working right.
lay the ipod on the table and press the center button see if anything happens to get past the language window.
if not, restore the ipod again and see if it helps.
if it is still having the same problem you may need a tech to fix it for you.
if this helps please leave a vote

what you want to do is, make sure you have a copy of all the music on your computer, then plug the ipod into the computer and when it detects it as a drive, you right click on the ipod, through start - my computer - ipod (g:) or w/e drive it is, and click "Format" ipod, have it do a quick format, restoring the ipod to factory mode, once you do that, unplug the ipod then it will ask you to set which language you want, then you set it, then plug it back onto the computer reupload all your music, then you got a unlock ipod.... :)

enjoy

IPod screen does not display and is all white but plays music

hello, Was someone messing around with the Contrast settings? If so, the Contrast may be set so low that you can't see the information on the iPod's screen. The only way to reset your iPod back to the factory defaults (including the Contrast setting) is to let the battery drain all the way out. Do whatever it takes to let the battery die then let the iPod sit overnight to be safe. Then the next morning, charge the battery and turn the iPod on. The first thing you should see is a screen asking you to select your language. If you can see your screen now, congratulations, this did the trick. If not, you probably need a new screen.

Want to reset

To change the language on it, you will have to restore it back to factory settings, which will delete everything off, and when you turn it on, it will show up on a screen where you will select the new language. Then, to make it sync only the playlist that you want on there, go to the ipod's main menu (where you can click on the restore button also) and click manually manage files. It will ask you if you are sure and click yes. After that, click and drag the playlist you want on your ipod to the ipod icon and the playlist and its music only will be on the ipod.
