I've formated my pmp-140 to NTFS by accident and got the Boot failure screen, my firmware is 2.04. I tried to fix the problem with Partition Magic and formating it to FAT32, after doing so, it died completely; still shows boot failure message but now it wont even respond to USB connection, so it just stays at the boot failure screen. I am desperate for help, any help would be great, if someone can fix it for me, I am willing to give them some money for it. Thank you. My email is ostrov17@hotmail.com

I posted a copy of working folders for a pmp-140 which I purchased on ebay. The usendit link should work for a week (posted on 3/19/08). The folders worked when I copied them from the working unit I bought on ebay to the boot failure unit.

Hope this helps

I also had to copy the working folders from my other daughters I-river PMP-140 which fixed the problem. As I found the existing files were corrupt and could not be opened or deleted the only drawback is you are using extra memory

Posted on Mar 04, 2008

I tried several downloads of system folders and fixes suggested on mystic river forum even having a local computer shop reformat my iriver using Windows 95 as instructed by the user's manual. None of the fixes I found on forums worked. I finally was able to fix my boot failure by buying a working pmp-140 on ebay for $120 and transferring the working folders onto my defective pmp-140. It was fixed in seconds. If anyone needs a copy of system folders I would be happy to post them to a site like yousendit. My email is angelbabe777us@yahoo.com put fix Iriver in the subject line.

Sometimes just downloading and following the procedure in Boot Failure does not work, because the system files cannot be overwritten, in this case follow the additional instructions here to delete manually the system files.

Boot failure or just nothing?

Boot failure would be the hard disk.
Just nothing would indicate that the system board is dead.

You don't mention using the mains power adaptor.

Boot failure

1st go to Ihttp://www.shamrockman.net/ and dload the version you want to run. My PMP shows 1.23 but I couldn't find that version so I now run 1.24.. Save the dloads in a new folder on your computer.. There should be (7) items that dload to your computer.

*** I have found that just copying the files to your PMP Player will NOT work.***

I had to delete ALL (7) of the system files and folders.
1.) BMP folder
2.) etc folder
3.) system file
4.) (4) "Version-[0x..... " files..

So there were (7) items I had to delete. Once deleted go to the folder you saved the dloads to. I had to click and drag each item to the drive your PMP player is connected to. Once all (7) items have been placed on your PMP player disconnect it, turn off the power, wait a minute and turn it back on. These steps worked PERFECTLY for me. Please let me know in this forum if this helps..

Thanks..

Iriver pmp 120 use the wrong charger

try this. the iriver doesn't boot at times ( wrong charger or using the right charger abroad), unlatch the battery and hold down the power button for about 20 seconds. also reset the instrument. hopefully that might work for you.

PMP-140 Boot Failure

You might need to change your format from NTS something to FAT32. Hook up your iriver to the comp. and right click the iriver drive..scroll down to format and click the arrow to chang it. My brother told me how but i still haven't tried it yet b/c he said that i needed a older comp. to do it. but i believe it'll work once i have the option to choose FAT32.
