Question about Saeco VIA Venezia

Coffee not pouring through portafilter

I just got the via venezia for christmas. Today i tried making espresso for the first time and i followed the instructions diligently. However, when I put the portafilter in and press the brew button, water just starts pouring out of the top of the portafilter along with grinds. No water goes through the holes in the bottom of the portafilter and into the shot glasses. I put the ground coffee filter into the portafilter and locked it into place and everything so i have no idea what is wrong.

please help me so i can make my espresso!

If your grounds are tamped down too tight, the steam can't get through it.

We have broken the handle on pressurized portafilter for Saeco Via Venezia espresso machine. where can we get replacement?

I don't think the handle is sold separately. Seattlecoffeegear does sells both a bottomless and an unpressurised portafilter for the Via Venezia. Both would be considered upgraded gear vs the pressurized one.

Coffee does not flow into shot glasses. water and coffe grounds seap and sprew from around the top ad down the sides

I had a brand new Via Venezia that I could barely get to make espesso, nothing or very little came out. Got a new portafilter and now it work beautifully, espesso flies out of the thing wonderfully. Bad news is a new portafilter is like $65. I can't believe they are shipping these with bad portafilters, but they are.

No water coming through portafilter to make espresso.

You have a stuck check valve. Try running the pump with the steam knob open, then shutting it then, opening it 4 or 5 times and see if it will pop open. Make sure that you don't have the portafilter in at the time you are doing this.

No espresso comes out. the grounds are like

Hi
There are a few things that can cause that.
  1. You grounds are too fine. You already have a pressurized portafilter. Your creating too much pressure.
  2. You need to clean your portafilter with espresso machine detergent by brewing it through the portafilter and basket (without coffee). Automatic dish washing detergent can do in a pinch, but has additives. Just a pinch will do.
  3. Your pump is bad and needs to be replaced.

I have cleaned the machine, taken apart the filter and even attempted to run white vinegar through it to remove any potential deposits. I still can't get water through. Any suggestions?

You may need a new portafilter. I got a brand new Via Venezia and it never worked right out of the box. I got a new portafilter and now the espesso flies out of the machine. Bad news is the portafilter is like $65. They say you are not supposed to take those portafilters apart, they have some weird pressurized part that gets wrecked if you disassemble them.

Saeco pressurized portafilter gets stuck in the locked position

No, no... He has a Saeco pressurized portafilter which has a valve that will not allow coffee through when the portafilter handle is pushed all the way to the right. His handle is locking in the rightmost position; this is not a grounds problem.

mjtourig: Can you not just nudge the handle to the left before you pull a shot to unlock it? If it is too clogged for that, try taking your portafilter apart to clean it. You'll have to remove the 3 screws on the bottom, and be very careful the entire time that you do not lose any of the parts (in particular, there is a spring under one of the screws that will want to pop out, and a tiny white plastic thing under that spring...). Good luck!

Makeing coffee

No, these machines use a pressurized portafilter to make brewing espresso easier. Be sure your coffee is ground about the fineness of table salt. Just level the coffee in the filter and insert the filter as instructed.
