On lexmark 7170 printer-when trying to fax-always get ''phone line error''-- connection is good from directline--phone works- Can't fax even without using pc I am using a Lexmark7170 printer with windows...

Hello. The "phone line error" usually comes up when the printer/fax is not connected properly to the fax line. Try to check behind the printer. There are two phone ports - Ext. and Line. The telephone cable should be plugged in to the Line port of the printer and the other end should go straight to the phone jack in the wall. If it is, try to use a different phone cable. Also, make sure that you assigned the correct fax number in your printer. Hope this helps.

Faxes do not send or receive using Magic jack

if its ooficejet, then u shud use 2 prong cable, wire that is coming out from wall jack shoud be directly connected to the line port of the printer and if u are using a tam that shoud be connected to the ext port of the printer, and if this doesn't work, then 1 thing you can do,remove the tam from the phone, and in case if you cannot remove, turn off the tam and then try to send, you wud be able to,and use only two prong cable, and i beleive you are not using voip connection....

Problem faxing-error message

Error 388:
Definition

There is too much noise on the line for a valid connection between two fax machines to complete. The noise problem might go away over time.

Solution

Retry the fax reception at a different time when telephone line conditions have improved. Call the telephone provider if line conditions fail to improve.

Error 403:
Definition

During a V.34 transmission, the local machine is unable to connect (handshake) with the remote machine and is consequently unable to send a T30 frame. This occurs when the line is disconnected or if line conditions degrade during the session.

Solutions
  • Remove any pass-through devices from the phone line, and then try the fax again.
  • Confirm that the fax/phone cable is no longer than required, and that it does not pass near unshielded electric motors such as fans, heaters, or household appliances.
  • Try to send the fax at a different time when telephone line conditions have improved.

What is error 388

there is not error code for the OfficeJet 4315. however, there are similar code for other Hp printer.
error "388" is lised as unable to detect T30 frames. in other words, the machine fail to establish comparable connection. this can be the machine trying to send out fax in high speed, or the phone line problem.
consult the user manul how to set a lower transmission rate, or try to send the fax at a differnt time of the day . If that still give you problem, please call the phone company and have they look a the phone line.
