Question about Digital Cameras

1 Answer

I own Canon S3 IS digital PowerShot camera. I have taken many pictures, but wanted to make some adjustments to some of the manual settings, as I am getting more comfortable with the camera, and would like to try pictures without using the AUTO mode. I made some adjustments to the picture size (compresion) and pixels.I do not remember making any more changing, but I read the User Guide a lot, and learned where adjustments can be made in the maual mode. I decided to look at some of my latest pictures, and when I activated the playback mode, it says "No Image". I am panicking! Where have all of my pictures gone??//??

I do not think I reformated the disk. I read what format did, but never went to the item in the menu until I was researching for what could have happened to the pictures.I did not ok the reformat when I did look @ it, I used SET to CANCEL it. HOWEVER, I have taken one picture since I discovered they were all missing. It does show when I press the play button, but it does not show the date, time or number. As I read the User Guide, the new picture should carry on with the next number for the picture, even if I did reformat the disc because I have it set on the continuous option for "file number" in the Set Up Menu. I will try the steps for image recovery with your help with the details and the links. THANK YOU, kathya

Did you "format" as part of changing your settings? Format reformats the disk - it has nothing to do with the format of the image files. If you formatted the disk, you will have to use image recovery software to restore the files. If this is the case, DO NOT do anything more with the disk until you try the image recovery software, as anything you do (take more photos, or make any more changes on the camera) reduce the chance of recovering your missing photos.

If you need help with the steps for image recovery, leave a followup comment and I'll give you more details and links.

Black screen on my canon S3 Si camera

This sounds like a common image sensor failure. Unfortunately Canon stopped fixing this problem over a year ago. Parts are NLA.

My canon powershot s3 IS is taking really dark pictures. The only decent pictures I can take with it are outside in sunlight. Pics indoors come out dark and grainy. I flip up the flash, but most of the...

This is not an answer. The S3 normally does not produce dark pictures, and I have seen this issue before. It has to do with a setting somewhere on that camera that needs to be adjusted. I wish I knew what that setting was/is as my wife's camera has recently started doing this ...

What ISO setting will give me the clearest (shapest) picture on an overcast day? and how do I manually adjust the f-stop and shutter speed?

It's not the ISO you want to change...it's the white balance. There is a setting on your camera for cloudy day. As for the other adjustments, check your owner's manual.

Black screen for Shooting Canon S3 IS

I have a similar problem with my Canon S3 IS. Dark/black LCD in Shooting mode. However, I can view my existing photos in Display mode. I was about to spend money to get a Panasonic TZ5. Somehow I bumped into a solution post for S2 IS. Here is the link:

I tried their solutions twice and it WORKS. My S3 is working fine now.

I have a canon powershot s3 is. i have had it a little over a year. It has just started being slow between pics. I thought maybe I had adjusted a setting or something. Or maybe it is just slow. Do you know...

Backup the pictures on your camera and remove any additional extention lenses or attachments. (this can cause focusing delay hence slowing down the process) + Read your manual to find the factory reset option and do the same. will resolve your issue.

Please let me know how this worked

No flash on Canon Powershot S3

You will need to have your camera reviewed by a qualified technician to have it repaired, since it requires open the camera and evaluate the flash circuitry.

Canon powershot s3 is digtal

This is a menu setting, in capture mode it is the slow synchro option I think. What it does is try to get the subject to have a lit background. Turn this off and you get a subject lit with flash and no background but no blurriness either.
