AMI BIOS (8/23/07) DOES NOT FINISH BOOT ON NEW ECS G31T-M

This is new mother board EliteGroup G31T-M with Intel Dual Core (2D E8500 3.16G). AMI BIOS is marked as 686 AMI BIOS D126-1013. It get on the screen with Intel info and memory info (4G Patriot DDR2 SRAM 240 pin 800 ).
So far I connected : 300W Power Supply, Video on mother board, 4 G Memory (it reads also 2G connection), internal speaker, external speaker, Logitech PS2 keyboad, PS2 mopuse optical,
I tried also function of PCI-E with ATI Radeon HD3650 1G DDR2 . It was recognized and switched OK.
CMOS reset did not changed a bit.
I waited about 5 minutes to 'settle'. No progrss.

thx

I removed 2 Gigs. Same result. (It recognized the change, but hang up in the same boot point).
I connected new plain SATA hard drive WS 500G, It did not worked, I connected older IDE WS HD with some OS ( Microsoft Me on it). It did not worked past memory check as before.
I have not even got to load new OS yet . This is first attempt to get to setup BIOS after power up with new mother board and new Intel chip.
    (Power is OK +5.15V, +12.14V),
    Any tests to do?

Am  I stuck in AMI BIOS routine...?
(no beeps are on speaker during initial AMI display)

    Hi Atomic

I did leave only items connected per your instruction (as basic combination A) I get to the same point, only report on RAM changes to 2G;s. I cannot get to the actual Bios to save setup. CPU. Fan runs, CPU has big Intel heatsink witk white ;goo; at the bottom as thermo sink help. BIOS stops at screen with a note "press F11 to start BBS POPUP" and reports 2G DDR2.

thanks for your effort. We'll get to the bottom of this.
    regards

I have similiar problem. I have EliteGroup ECS G31T-M Motherboard with 4G DDR2 800. It posts description inluding F11 and reads RAM setup. Thats all.  Never gets to screen to post " DEL to set BIOS". Keybord is not active. I tried 3 working keybords, changed SATA WD 500G HD  , changed IDE WS HD which seems to power,  I connected audio out, CD/DVD drive has power.  It is stuck in the same sequence regardless of adds of combination

You don't say what processor, but most quads need a bios flash. you'll need a floppy and a processor that works in that board. I used a celeron 430.

You should attempt to remove 2 gigs of RAM. Depending on your OS you may not be able to utilize all 4 gigs.

Have you tried to connect any Hard drives to the system?

Many people bought the combo at Fry's. It won't enter setup. You need to flash the BIOS to see the newer Intel Processors. ECS has the upgrade on their website.  The PROBLEM is that you need an older intel socket 775 processor that works with this board to flash the bios so the new processor will work

As for solution #2 Atomic81 is the intelligent approach, However totally useless with this known problem. This same problem is on many help sites since Fry's sold the combo for less than you could buy the processor. Some say Fry's will flash the BIOS for you, however my local store was as useless as **** on a bull. Not only would they not do it, but they had no working lessor or older socket 775 processor to enter the setup so the BIOS could be flashed. They tried to sell me one though. I tried to contact ECS, but you can only send an email. Haven't heard back yet (One day) Some boards have a removable chip, but I think this one is soldered to the board so that approach is out.

So to sum up,,, The Bios has to be flashed for the board to use the Processor  (E8400, E 8500 etc)
In order to flash the BIOS you need a processor that works with this board

Greetings,
What I would like you to do is take off any additional cards that you have on the board (If any) All I want you to have hooked to the board is 1 stick of ram, the processor, keyboard, mouse, monitor, and power supply. If you have attached any of the USB connectors for your case disconnect them. (Do you have a processor fan or heatsink attached to the processor? If you do not make sure that you have one attached and that it is working.) Turn on the computer and enter the bios setup if you can get there and load the default settings. Save and exit the bios.

After doing these steps please tell me what it says on the screen when it freezes. Please be patient once it gets to the point where it normally freezes give it a minute to see if it goes anywhere.

Please be aware that these boards ar notorious for being DOA (Dead On Arrival) I personally have had 3 Elitegroup boards that were DOA when I got them (They came free with my processors when I boutght them new from Frys Electronics)

Let me know the result and what you see on the screen and I can assist in further troubleshooting.

Need to know the location of the bios chip on a esc g31t-m v1.0 motherboard is it next to the battery? Failed bios flash want to remove bios chip to send in to badflash to have it reflashed.

Not all BIOS chips are removable. Your board uses a AMI Bios and u can quickly identify it by searching for the AMI symbol or lettering. If the Bios has a seat you can remove it: ttp://www.biosman.com/images/extaction_plcc_points.gif

If it is soldered on...sorry...u need a new MB.

But have you tried clearing the bios and then reflashing it?

No boot up / no post for new CPU (ECS G31R-M7) with Intel E5200

i have a ecs g31t-m with a pentium e5200 dual core. i bought the board from ebay and the bios needed to be flashed before it would reconize the processor. after flashing the bios i still had the same problem. i found that in the user manual there is a list of "qualified" ram. before looking at this list i tried some ram that was not on the list and it wouldn't boot. after changing the ram to one that was on the list it finally booted up. however, after getting it to boot and reloading win xp, i cant get any drivers to load for the onboard equipment. so now i'm stuck. i hope this helps and if someone can give me direction on the drivers i'd be in good shape.
