If you have the filter on the top take the 2 philips head screws out by the filter. Use a flat head to pop the clips in the front there are 2 one on each side about 2inches from each corner. If you have the other model take off the 2 philip screws on the back of the console flip the console up and remove the 3 1/4in screws from the top. don't forget to unplug good luck.

I got the part for my whirlpool washer to replace latch how do i remove the top to get to it?

By 'Latch', it is assumed you mean the Latch switch that operates when the door is opened, thus inhibiting operation.

Generic answer:
Most Whirlpool top loader machines have a single screw at each side of the control panel (lower rear of panel). Remove these, slide the control panel forward a bit, and then lift a bit, It should separate from the lower body, (not much, but enough to work on the rest of the machine).
Unclip the cable that is connected to the door latch switch.
Now, you should see two 'copper to goldish' coloured metal clips that hold the rear cover to the main body. Unclip these (a strong screwdriver) is needed, and tilt the main body forward. The Latch switch is now fully acessable.

Assembly is the reverse of the above.

The door remains locked

Whirlpool-made Front Loading such as the Kenmore Elite washing machines use a door lock and switch assembly having a tab that can be pulled manually for emergency opening of the door. This tab can be accessed with the removal of the lower front access panel. Disconnect power to the washer and drain the water from the tub before accessing it.

Remove the three screws attaching the lower front access panel to the cabinet then pull the panel down and off the cabinet. You can prop up the bottom front edge of the washer or cushion and lean it against the wall to access and remove the screws more easily.

Once the panel is off, reach up along the inside of the front panel and locate the bottom of the door lock and switch assembly on the right side. Locate the tear-drop shaped tab then gently pull it down until a click is heard, and then open the door.

The door lock and switch assembly may need to be replaced if the problem persists. The replacement procedure is here.

Some
Whirlpool-made Front Loading such as the Kenmore Elite use another type of door lock and switch assembly but still with the release tab and can be accessed through the washer top. Remove the screws attaching the top panel to the rear of the machine then pull the panel rearward and off the cabinet. Pull the release tab until a click is heard then open the door.

Just want to know how to take off the top to get to door switch

This assumes that you have a basic Kenmore / Whirlpool top load, direct drive, neutral drain (it doesn't spin until the pump removes most of the water) machine.

First, see the Sears parts site for your washer:
http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/index.action

Enter your model number (###.######) and you'll see a list of major sub-components with diagrams and parts.

Newer model Whirlpool / Kenmore washers use a Lid Switch as a safety device. Unless the switch senses that the lid on the washer is closed, the washer will neither agitate nor spin.

Older models only used the switch during the spin cycle.

Try to bypass the Lid Switch by removing the Console and jumping the two outermost pins on the switch.

This is a Whirlpool PDF on how these washers operate. It has a diagram on jumping the switch as well as a detailed section on how the transmission works.

https://secured.whirlpool.com/Service/SrvTechAdm.nsf/2cd44500d572193285256a45004fd9d6/f7e2147fa98b28cf85257122007475cb/$FILE/L-55.pdf

It also has a troubleshooting guide.

To bypass the switch, you only have to disconnect the power to the washer, tilt the console back, unplug the switch and using an short piece of insulated wire, jump the two outermost contacts on the connector coming from the console and plug the washer back in.

Following is a description of how to gain access to the console and how to remove the cabinet if necessary.

http://www.american-appliance.com/catalog/newsdesk_info.php?newsPath=16&newsdesk_id=131&osCsid=913ba652cd504fb162f87d892bcb427b

With the jumper in place, try to re-start the washer.

If it works, the Lid Switch is a relatively inexpensive part and only requires you to access the console and remove the cabinet.

My GGQ 9800 gas dryer won't start. It was working

Hi,
Things to check first on a no start dryer.
Check for power at outlet.
Inspect power cord.
When you try to turn it on do you hear anything?
Check the door switch(does it click when pressed in?)
The next item to check and most likely replace on a completely dead dryer with power and a good door switch would be the thermal fuse located inside the cabinet.
Please let me know if I can help with anything else

What is the paper jam procedure for hp 9800? thx, jean

Hi, Assuming you can't remove the jammed paper from the front, remove the back panel to access to the jammed paper. (See step #2 to get an idea of where and how to remove the back panel).
Once the paper has been removed, just replace the back panel and "restart" your printer.
Cheers, Ed

Lid switch replacement

Some washing machines have the bolts that hold the top down situated behind the front panel but you have to remove the panel to gain access.
There may be 3-4 screws at the bottom of the front panel, remove the screws and the panel should come out.
Hope this has helped
