GE washer does not agitate or spin

My GE top load washer (model WLRR5000G0WW) does not agitate or spin. The washer will go through the entire cycle. I realized that something was wrong when I opened the machine at the end of the cycle and the clothes had not moved and there was still soap on the top layer of clothes. The outer tub was tilted to the left. I took the panel off and found that one of the suspension rods was off of the frame. I put it back on - hoping that the problem was solved. Unfortunately, that's not the case.

I Checked:
Suspension rods: All 4 are attached now
Door/lid switch: No loose wires. Not sure if that is the problem.
Drive Belt: Still attached. I can turn the wheel (?) and the belt moves the tub. No oil residue. (I read that oil on the belt was bad?)

So I ran the cycle and watched the washing machine... here is what I saw:

Fill: The washer fills up with water just fine.
Wash: Nothing. No motor, no noise. Then after 5-8 minutes, the motor turns on and pumps the water out of the tub.
Rinse: The washer fills up with water just fine. Then after it is full of water, the motor stops. Then nothing. After 5 minutes or so, the motor turns on and pumps the water out.
Spin: The motor runs with the empty tub, but the tub does not spin.
The cycle ends when the spin cycle is over.

Help! What could the problem be?

I am having the same problem! Started just before the holidays, called a repair man and he says the washer has 2 circuit boards and that one of them has gone out. According to him this is a problem with this washer. I've had my washer for about 2 years, no longer under warranty and he says it may cost more to fix it than to buy a new washer. Umm... I can't afford to buy a new washer!!!

Sounds like I'm having the same problem.. I have a GE Profile (WPRE6100G1WT) and it will fill up with water, no agitation, drain, no spin, fill up again, this time it agitates, drains, and now it's spinning. What up??!? On the wash cycle I do notice the motor is on and attempting to agitate, ie - it clicks and grunts like it's working but no agitation. I only have a few towels in there so I know I'm not overloading it. My washer is right at 1 year old. Does anyone have any suggestions, words of advice??

There is a fusable link that is known to blow. The replacement is available. Open the front access panel, Remove the tape from the wires that are taped together near the top of the wiring harness, about 3/4 of the way up. You will see a wire that is covered with shrink wrap (White with Red stripe I think) Cut it out, check for open circuit with an ohm meter. If it is open, (no continuity) Replace it. I used a regular piece of wire as a jumper for testing till I got the new fuse. The fuse kit I got comes with 2 of these fusable links. One is for a spare.

whoever reforrest is, .....I owe you big time - you saved my family reputation as the "go to guy" for whatever stops working at home!!!

I had the same problem as described above, so on your advice, I checked the fusable link (it was open), jumped it, and we have a working washing machine again!

Look I am having the same problem. I removed the belt to see if the motor would move on its own without the transmission. The motor did not move, but if I start it moving it would begin to move on its own. I am finding out that the control voltage from the control/timer is not strong enough to kick the motor on. Washer will spin though. 6/2013...still troubleshooting it.

Agitator doesn't spin during wash cycle

If The washer won't agitate
Check to make sure no clothing got wrapped around the agitator. Check the lid switch, timer, and drive belt, other potential causes, such as a bad transmission or bad agitate/spin solenoid, but they are much more involved.
if the washer won't spin, the lid switch, timer, drive belt, transmission, or agitate/spin solenoid could be the cause here as well. Sometimes if the load is unbalanced or too heavy, the washer won't spin. Take some of the clothes out and try the spin cycle again with a lighter load.

Here are the steps to replace the agitator.
1: Take the fabric softener dispenser off and pry off the agitator lid.
2: Use a socket wrench with an extension bar to remove the stud and seal.
3: Remove the agitator top and bottom.
4: Check the agitator clutch assembly (located in the agitator top) for excessive wear.
5: To replace, just reverse the directions.
