Re: URL Filter Configuration
Ok, sounds to me like the security settings on your laptop for the wireless network card are configured in HIGH safety mode. The easiest way to resolve this is to:
1. goto control panel (start - settings - control panel)
2. open network connections
3. right click and select PROPERTIES on your wireless network connection
4. click on tcp ip (interent properties) double click it
5. goto advanced button (lower right hand side)
6. options tab
6. goto properties button for ip filter
7 uncheck (if checked) Enable ip filtering

Connect a LAN cable from the Netgear to the LAN port on yourcomputer, open a browser and enter the Netgear configuration URL - http://192.168.0.1 The default login = admin The default PW = passwordYou can now change the default admin password and configurethe wireless settings. Go to the wireless configuration and set up the SSID and WPA or WPA2encryption. Apply these settings to the wireless card in your laptop/computer. As a general test, see if you can ping the "router's configuration URL IP address". To do that go to a command prompt(DOS Prompt) and type in ping and the routers IP. If you get replies you are OK conencting as far as the router. Next try PINGing to www.yahoo.com or www.google.com. If you get replies you are OK conencting as far as the Internet. If not try sending a ping to their IP(the numbered) address. If you get replies you are OK conencting as far as the Internet, but you have a DNS issue. Big Pond can help you with that.
Assuming this is like a home network you should try unplugging the power to your wireless router for 5 seconds and then plug it back in. Sometimes your wireless router can have a problem handing out IP addresses correctly.
If it still doesn't work then try connecting to a different network, if it has a problem connecting to multiple networks then you probably have a hardware problem. You can call Toshiba at 1-800-457-7777 or lookup your local ASP at support.toshiba.com for help.
Basically the wireless card in the laptop needs to be configured with your wireless router's setings. To set-up and secure the wireless router from unauthorized access, follow these steps: - 1. Connect the wireless router to your computer with a LAN cable. 2. Start your browser and enter the router's configuration URL IP address. 3. Enter the router setup, login and password 4. Change the admin password 5. Go to the wireless settings and change the default SSID and turn off SSID broadcast. 6. Setup encryption key the strongest is WPA2 (if not then WPA). 7. For further security measures - turn on MAC address filtering and enter the MAC address of the wireless cards on the computer/s you want to connect to this wireless router. 8. Record the settings you have made and keep it in a safe place and Save the settings. 9. Configure the wireless cards on the computer/s with the SSID and encryption settings of the router. 10. Remove the LAN cable between the router and the computer then the computers should be able to connect to the router wirelessly.
The wireless configuration is set differently on routers, eg the SSID, and encryption. You need to configure the wireless LAN card in the laptop to connect/communicate with the different routers.
Some wireless LAN card allow you to setup different profiles/settings for different wireless routers. Eg one setting for the office and one for home, which allows easy connection to the Internet by selecting the appropriate profile/setting.
This problem is common.
This error message occures when the wireless card does not get an IP address from the wireless router. To get the wireless router to issue the wireless with a new IP address the connection needs to be repaired.
Right click on the wireless icon and click on repair.
Right click on the wireless LAN and then click Repair. Do this in the Control Panel - Network Connections. This will force the wireless LAN card to get a new TCP/IP address from your wireless router.
When you get this Limited connectivity message do a repair - this is a common problem - the wireless connection icon is also on your Task Bar, you can right click in it to do a repair.
I think you have answered your own problem, your wireless has possibly been zapped. To test your ethernet adapter on your laptop connect it to a network hub, check the hub and see if you have a link light on the hub and or laptop.. To test your wireless router, connect it to a known working computer with a network card and check the router configuration, using the browser, if you cannot access it then its zapped.
I also did the same with my toshiba satellite m200 machine.
but I visited the site www.toshiba-india.com and downloaded driver (SM200_XP_Intel_WIFI_Driver_For_PSMC0_PSMC1) and installed on my machine and now my wireless connection is working very fine. I am sending you this message and sollution by connected with same wireless.
