Re: im trying to set security on belkin n router
Hi...if your router has WPS capability, such as a special button to set up wireless security, then to use it your client computer/device must also be WPS enabled.
If it is, there are usually two options to configure WPS security: the push button method, or the PIN number. The push button method usually requires that you press the WPS button on the router, then within a set time, press the equivalent button on the computer (eg laptop, or whatever device it is). The PIN number method requires a PIN to be entered into the client computer. The PIN can sometimes be found on a sticker on the router.
Your manual should help with the details, but see this page for some more info. http://kbserver.netgear.com/kb_web_files/n101691.asp
If you don't have a WPS enabled computer or don't want to use it, you can set up security manually. Please come back to Fixya if you'd like help with this.

The network security key is set by the user when the home network is setup. It prevents people from stealing your wireless signal. If you have forgot it, or didn't set it up but it still is asking for one, you can unplug and hit the reset button on your router and delete the home network you have on your main computer. From there, just run the network setup wizard from the main pc and set your network security key to something you can remember as well as write it down. Then you should be set to add any other pc to your home network as long as when you try to connect, you put the correct key in.
There is a small button in the back of your F5D8236-4 Belkin router. you need a pencil to push it for some seconds.
All your router setting will return to default. (Username:Admin, Password:Admin).
security has been enabled on the router, the security will be removed
when the F5D8236-4 router is reset to the factory settings. This means, anyone can
connect to your Wi-Fi signal until you set up router security again.
You can restore the Belkin back to the default settings by - Power off the Belkin, press and hold the RESET button with a paperclip then insert the power cord. Hold the RESET button fo at least 15 secs. then release the button and the router will boot up. You can login using the defaults change the password and set up the wireless settings again.
Turn everything off.Unplug all the devices connected to the router . With the router powered up hit the reset button on the back of it .The router should flash an reset.Go in as admin into the router after you plug everything in an do settings.
connect any one of the computers to the router with a ethernet cable.
open internet explorer, clear out the address bar on the top, and type
192.168.2.1. when u hit enter, u'll get a router set up utility. in this
page u'll have an option -security- below "wireless". when u click
security, it'll ask for a password, leave it blank and hit submit. on
the next window, u will find the password there.
On the router you will find a small reset button. Press it and hold it down for 30 seconds. You may need a pen or a paper clip. Release the reset after 30 seconds. wait for 1 minute till the power light becomes solid. unplug the power and plug it back in. wait for 1 minute again. Hiya, when you go to your router homepage, normally an address like 192.168.2.1 for most belkins, there will be a security tab, if you look at the wep settings it should give you what the wep key is, if not you can generate a new one and put it into your pc's and ps3,
Your password however if not changed from original will be blank just hit the submit button,
Also there should be a reset button in the casing of the router, this will reset it to factory where password will be blank so hit the submit button, hope this helps
