Open Question

Camera JVC Everio GZ-MG130U says it needs to format hard drive

My camara says

Needs to format hardisk drive
Do you want to format Drive?
All Data will be erased.

Execute
Cancel

I keep putting cancel because I havent been able to backup my files and I dont want to lose them. I connect the camera to my PC and it beeps as if it recognizes the camera, but it does not show that the camera is connected. The software program does not recognize the camera either, so I cant backup. When I hook up the camera to the pc, the lcd screen on the camera does ask if I want to playback, backup, etc, and then I push an option and it shows the screen that says USB to PC or whatever, but then nothing after that. My baby was just born and all of my videos of her on on the camera...priceless videos!! Please help me!

Thank you
Carrie

I had the error message that I must format the disk as well

****Never do that before backing up your files, or you'll lose them forever***

    here is my experience:
At first, I wasn't even able to get the camera to connect to the pc.

--> what I did then is switching to the still-image mode

there is a chance that the files management problem is in the video folder in the camera hard-drive.

if that's the case you will be able to access the video folder from the PC, when you choose playback on PC option

    here are the steps:
    1- switch to still-image mode.
    2- connect the USB cable.
    3- turn on the camera.
    4- choose "playback on PC".

Hopefully, you will be able to see something on your PC.

    Good Luck

Plugged camera into PC (usb). Auto play window pops up. Chose "import pictures". All pictures and video files were imported. Then had to copy and paste into movie maker. Movie maker could not find the camera.

A long way to get to where I wanted, but it worked. If anyone has a shorter or quicker solution, please post.

Windows Vista, lost disc.

SD card format ng no card

  • 1 Insert your SanDisk 8GB memory card into a card reader connected to your computer.
  • 2 Double-click "Macintosh HD" on your desktop.
  • 3 Click on the "Applications" folder, then the "Utilities" folder.
4 Double-click "Disk Utility". Look on the left side to locate the drive that says "SanDisk.
5 Select the capacity of the drive on the left side of the window. The capacity will state "8GB" or "8,388,608 kilobytes." Click on the "Erase" tab to format the memory card. When you see "SanDisk" listed as the device's name, the capacity will be located above. You need to select the capacity and not the device.
6 Select the appropriate "Volume Format." Under the "Volume Format" button, select the format you wish to use. Select "Mac OS Extended" if the SanDisk 8GB will only be used on Macs, or "MS-DOS (FAT)" if you will share the card between a Mac and PC. Select "Erase" to complete the format of your SanDisk 8GB memory card.

How do i upload the disk onto my mac at home. There isnt a tray dvd-rom it is an ejectable disk format. I put the mini dvd in and nothing happens...seconds later it ejects.

You're fortunate the disc ejects. Many slot-loading DVD drives will get these mini discs stuck in them. You either need an external tray type DVD drive (some are $50 or less) or borrow a computer a tray type DVD drive with either the possibility of copying the data to the hard drive and then to a full size DVD (or dual optical drives (only one needs to be a writer) to copy from one to another). Check the specs for mini-disc (8 cm) support.

I wish that I could be of more help.
