Probably a processor performance issue but I'll ask anyways
When i scroll down my list of music or artists or any list, Some of the letters are squared out or other symbols are place holders for the missing letters. I can't get into my songs and none of the music will play. I got this for christmas with no reciept. I tried to ask Walmart or Best Buy for help but they told me to go to the manufacturer website and that's not user friendly. Is there a restart button or something like that on my player? What happened to the player? ANY, ANY, ANY help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Re: Probably a processor performance issue but I'll ask...
This player will not recognize any ID3 tag information that was made after 2005 - the player is that old - that is why you are getting blocky letters. Do not use this mp3 player with Windows Media Player 11 or Vista - it will irreversibly fail. I would seriously consider reading the user manual - it shows you how to reset the player - by pressing and hold the Power On/Off key and the Volume + key for a couple of seconds - and everything. Save your music and format the sansa and reset 1: RESET: Go into the settings and scroll down to reset all, push center button, scroll to yes, push center this will restore factory settings..... 2: Reset All NOTE: THIS IS AN ADVANCED OPERATION AND RESTORES ALL SETTINGS TO THE FACTORY DEFAULTS. NORMAL USERS ARE NOT RECOMMENDED TO PERFORM THIS OPERATION! If your device freezes up press the Menu button and hold for 15 seconds. This is like a power down of the device. Once you perform the reset, the adjustments you made during last operation will be gone. This is what it states in the manual for the 260 sansa Page 29 3: Recovery Mode also resets system settings when unplugged... lock your sansa hold in the rec key on the left at the same time push the menu/power button this will take you to recovery mode connect to comp when finished unplug
You need to check the information on your computer.
Right click on the songs that are not showing up under artist and look at the info for them. If they don't have an artist listed, they will not show up on your ipod in the artist tab. You can add the artist name and then sync your ipod and it will update your music information for you.
If you used the 2.0 version firmware this should restore the firmware and you would need to reload the music files. Not sure if there is a master reset or clear but if there is, do it then reload the firmware and reload the music files. Make sure that all the files you are putting on are ok.
This is all I see, it is listed under update but this is not an update, this is the firmware that runs the player,so make sure that you are installing it the exact way that any instructions say.
Scrolling is different for many of the different lists you'll see. In some lists, such as the Artists in the Music Player, you 'drag' the list up or down, by dragging the last or first items respectively.
In All Tracks, strangely, dragging the list doesn't work. You'll have to use the scrollbar on the right. As far as I've seen, dragging will not work if a scrollbar is present.
In most lists, scrolling with the jog dial on the back should also work. There are lists which don't respond to the jog dial, but that is usually when the volume would be changed instead (eg. browsing the playlist when listening to music).
But at least one of the above three should always work. Hope that helps.
If you use a fileshare program to download music, sometimes some of the song information is changed and/or deleted. The album information is probably still with the song, but the artist info isn't. It's really stupid but the only thing you can do is just find the song through albums instead of artist.
