Garmin 265WT - fm traffic

Accoding to the box and system, the fm traffic should be free...but when I touch the screen, it says I must first go online to get the code. Of course online doesn't allow the "included" option. 20 mins on hold with customer service for the guy to argue that the unit doesn't have an FM transmitter in it...finally he agrees it does. Then he tells me it takes 2 days for it to update once out of the box...seriously? Its been 5. Then he asked if its been "on for and running for all 5 days" to which I ask if he is joking. He said it should start working eventually. Is there any other way to get the code I need?

Same thing with me. Traffic has never worked out of the box. I have the unit plugged into my car and updated to version 5.0. Still no traffic. According to the coverage map I should get an fm sognal. (WIlmington, DE).

I bought a Nuvi 275 about 2 weeks ago at the Costco online store.
Sure enough after about 3 days the FM traffic stopped working.
I called Garmin CS, as I am in Toronto and found out from Garmin anything they ship is subject to duty and taxes, plus a credit card deposit on the part, Garmin obviously refuses to pay the duty and taxes. They said they'd see if they can repair it but I would be without it for at least a month ! Funny that they are very happy to sell their products to us unsuspecting suckers !  I'm currently trying to see if Costco can help me out, but they have currently ran out of stock on the Nuvi 275, Costco would gladly give me a refund, but I just want a 275 that works !
Buyer beware, Garmin makes a decent product in theory but the quality and customer service and support really really **** !

fm traffic only works when its plugged into the special power cable. it will only show up when its plugged in. if you have lifetime traffic it will say it under the enable box. the add button is to add other services. mine is speratic at best and i have no clue why.

I called Garmin about the same issue. If you will turn it on and are in one of the 50 metro areas covered it will automatically receive trraffic updates. That is exactly what I did and it worked and I got the same message you did. You do NOT have to sign up, get a code, or anything. Just turn it on in one of the areas and watch for the traffic symbol on the uper left hand side.

The fm transmitter is included in the 265wt, its the rectangular portion in the power cable we use in the car.the lifetime fm traffic is free.i purchased a 265wt this dec 2009.the prob came up it said i need to update the fm traffic and gave a code.i went to the garmin site and couldnt figure out where to enter it as all the prod there can only be purchased..there were no traffic signals now.i tried all the evening and figured this out
i went to my car and connected my gps with the power cable as it has the transmitter.now i got the traffic signal and touched on that icon it said it has automatically updated and fm traffic is available free till 2023.my friend too had the same problem ,his 265wt also got updated automatically.but he didnt get the traffic icon just infront of his home but only in major highways.so if u r in a good location u will get the traffic icon.
the premium traffic which is 60$ in the website is not needed it just gives some extra features like the traffic being displayed even when u r not in the major highways.actually u will not encounter any traffic in such places so why spend money on that.there is a free map update for 265wt within 60 days of activation dont forget it,as it costs around 150$ to purchase a map update.

I received a 265WT for the holidays and had the same problem. The power cable you get with the unit has a rectangular piece on it. This is the receiver for traffic info. I think you have to enable it through the setup menus on the unit. I almost spent the $60.00 for the "lifetime membership" and then saw that I WAS getting traffic info when I got near any MAJOR highway. Depending on where you are geographically you get road conditions, generally for large highways only. There are 2 types of traffic info and one of them is free. In order to get the pay traffic info you not only need to pay the $60.00 put you need to buy a new cable which I priced at over $100.00. The free traffic is OK but I was expecting more.

The speech isn't the greatest but it shouldn't be "garbled." If it is there is probably something wrong with the unit or you have the volume up too high. Personally I find it really annoying and mute it. The thing to remember is if you are using the unit as your hands free cell device you have to unmute the device when placing or receiving calls.

Hope this helps.

You don't need that code. that code for other traffic purchase.
just tell them the serial number of the transmitter and ask if it receive any signal.
mine works after that.

Same - about Get the Code from Garmin.com... no such spot on the site... other than Buy one. No help. I finally downloaded the Manual for the 205T series, and it says that the Traffic feature in the unit is AD-based and wherever signal is available. - " nüvi 265WT's integrated FM traffic receiver. Receive alerts about traffic delays and road construction that lie ahead on your route" So, I do not think you need to Get the Code (is only brought out periodically). ALSO - this feature is only for NEW PURCHASE. Used/refurbished units may lose it. So, I am on vacation, and never seen my traffic button, evnthough I have it set for ON in the Setup. OK - no FM/Traffic reception - no traffic info.

Check the information that came in your box. With my TomTom Lifetime Traffic and Maps, there was an "activation" number on one sheet of paper. I had to activate (per instructions) before I could enable the lifetime goodies.

Garmin 265wt I want to know if my garmin have a free lifetime traffic incluse

Yes, the nuvi 265WT comes with a lifetime license for US traffic. That doesn't guarantee that you have a station in your area that broadcasts traffic information, and you must use the special power cable (which contains the antenna) for it to receive anything. You won't see anything on the screen unless/until the nuvi recognizes a traffic signal.

Where do I go to register my garmin and get the traffic set up

Your Garmin already has the lifetime subscription on it and does not need to be set up. For the traffic icon to come up in the top left you need to have it plugged into your car power cord which has an FM receiver on it and you need to be where there is an FM signal. Not all cities have an FM signal but they are adding new ones all the time. If you do not see the traffic icon you may not be where a signal is yet. I have a 255WT and where i live does not have a signal but when I travel to other cities I find the FM signal and it has helped me a lot to go through traffic. For proof of your lifetime traffic go to the bottom of your menu page when it is plugged into your car power cord and plugged in to the power source. You will find a traffic icon. Click on it and you should see a lifetime subscription. You can also add other traffic subscription on this page if you are travelling to other countries. Hope this helps. Good luck!

I need to obtain a traffic subscription code for my garmin gps.. it tells me to go to visit a website which wil ask me to enter the Unit ID of my FM traffic receiver but i dont know where to go with that

Free traffic in Canada should subscribe automatically without any need to put a code in. It has to be connected by the adapter through your car's lighter, a small icon of two cars will appear near the top left corner of your map, and with it you can change to the traffic map.
When the icon is green you are in the area covered by the free traffic service.

According to page 32 and garmin's website, the traffic subscription comes as part of the package and automatically activates when the GPS receives a satellite signal and is connected to the FM receiver (the car adapter).

I have the garmin 255wt and the box said 255wt but the unit said 255w and the instructions were for a 205 but thru trial and error and the help of forums I came up with the solution that the power cord has to be plug in and in the area that has fm and when it asked you for the ativation code you dont need it for lifetime subscriptions it just works
