You have two options:
1 - Contact HP for the CD set.
2 - Purchase XP or VISTA and install new.
Normally, the CD's are not available as a download.

Reset acer

The Acer Aspire One is a netbook, not a laptop.
A netbook is a smaller, scaled-down version of a laptop. It does not have the memory capacity or graphics of a regular laptop.
It also lacks a CD drive, which means you cannot restore the Acer Aspire One with restore discs. Instead, the netbook has a built-in factory restore feature.
You can reset the Acer Aspire One to factory settings just using your keyboard.
Only restore your netbook to factory settings if you cannot fix the problem any other way.
Save any files or folders on your Acer Aspire One with flash drives.
Drag and drop files onto the icon of your flash drive.
Go to Start > Restart to reboot your netbook.

Hold down Alt and F10 when you see the Acer logo on the screen.
The recovery menu will load.
Hit Enter and then Next to see your recovery options.
Choose Factory Restore to set your netbook back to factory settings.
Follow the instructions on the screen.
Choose your time zone and language when the customization menu appears.
Reboot the netbook when you are prompted.
Restore your saved files from the flash drive.
or
When a vital file becomes corrupted, it might be necessary to restore a computer to its original factory settings.
This process also cleans up the hard drive and removes old programs that can make a computer slow and unresponsive.
But, because restoration wipes away all files you have installed or created, it should be a last-ditch effort in trying to repair a computer.
If you have reached this point with your Acer laptop or desktop, the manufacturer provides a utility to restore the factory settings.

Open the Windows Start menu by clicking on the icon in the lower left corner of your desktop.
Click All Programs, then the Acer folder.

Select Acer eRecovery Management to open the utility.
If a Windows prompt asks for permission to run the program, click Yes.

Click the Restore button in the pane on the left side of the program window.
Click Completely Restore System to Factory Defaults.
Select the Yes option in the dialog box that asks you to confirm the action, and click Start.
Click OK in the second confirmation dialog box to restart the computer.
Click Next in the warning window that appears after the computer reboots.
This confirms that you realize restoring the computer deletes any data stored on your hard drive.

Click Next again in the Restore Destination window, and click OK in the popup that gives you one last warning about deleting your data.
The restoration process will begin.

Click OK when the utility lets you know that the restoration is complete.
The computer will restart, and Windows will finish the recovery process.

I have one notebook aspire d260 notebook, but i cant start the windows, what can i do??

Hi and Welcom to Fixya!

To be sure that nothing is preventing the machine from accessing the hard drive and successfully boot to windows, remove all devices attached to the notebook. If this does not work, chances are, you might have a corrupted windows.

If you have already backup your important files (which every laptop owner should do), you can just simply reset the machine back to factory settings.

To restore Acer Aspire 1 D260-A to factory settings: press Alt+F10 when you boot up the laptop. You will see Acer Recovery Management, select "restore system to factory default settings" then follow the instructions.

Hope this helps!

My laptop apparently has a virus. I lost all network connections, right down to the set-up new connection. I cannot access System Restore and I download anti-virus programs on to an external drive thinking...

You must do a complete restore if you have all of your files backed up. Try and back up your files before hand if possible. Refer to the manual or company's site for instructions on how to do this.

How do I reset my laptop to factory settings?

There should have been a recovery disk created or included when you bought a laptop. Insert disk if you have it and restart your computer with the recovery disk in the CD drive. Make sure all your documents and personal data are backed up. When the computer restarts it should start restoring your computer to the factory default. There will be a wizard to guide you through the process.
If there is no disk or got lost, then follow this steps:
1.Save any files or folders on your computer with flash drives. Drag and drop files onto the icon of your flash drive.
2.Go to "Start" > "Restart" to reboot your netbook.
3.Hold down "Alt" and "F10" when you see the logo on the screen. The recovery menu will load.
4.Hit "Enter" and then "Next" to see your recovery options. Choose "Factory Restore" to set your computer back to factory settings. Follow the instructions on the screen.
5.Choose your time zone and language when the customization menu appears. Reboot when you are prompted.
6.Restore your saved files from the flash drive.

hope this helps,Goodluck..pls response with your rate and testimonials below for further issues..thanks

I want to reset my laptop to factory settings? How do I do this?

Do you have the restore disks? If you put the restore disk in your disk drive you should be able to follow the steps to reset to factory settings. When I did this to my computer, I chose the box that said "Restore computer to out of the box state"

BEFORE you do this, you should back up any text and image files that you want to keep. After resetting, your files will be lost and you will have to reinstall any programs or files that did not originally come on your computer.
