Question about Iomega (33215) 250 GB Hard Drive

Iomega 250Gb stopped working

Dear all, my iomega 250Gb USB storage device has stopped working. The power light comes on but not the "Data" light, it can no longer be read by my laptop (running XP). In the device manager there is a yellow exclaimation mark next to it, double clicking on the symbol it states I have a "Code 10" problem. I have tried removing and re-installing it but to no avail. Has anyone else experienced this? Many thanks to anyone who can help, regards Rob.

Re: Iomega 250Gb stopped working

Hi, according to Microsoft Support: Code 10: If the device has a FailReasonString value in its hardware key, that string appears as the error message. The driver or enumerator puts this registry string value there. If there is no FailReasonString in the hardware key, you receive the following error message: This device cannot start. (Code 10) ( Recommended resolution: Device failed to start. Click Update Driver to update the drivers for this device. On the General Properties tab of the device, click Troubleshoot to start the Troubleshooting Wizard. Uninstalling and reinstalling does not fix, then you have to right click and updtae drivers assuming you have enabled you Automatic Updates. Hope this be of some help. Pls post again how things turn up or if we can be of further assistance. Good luck.

My computer refuses to recognize the external hard drive what do i do

Hello there,

What type of OS are you running ( Windows # )

What type of motherboard

Here is what i would do to start off with,

STEP ONE - Check all connections
  1. Unplug the USB data cable from the drive and the computer.
  2. Check the ends of the USB data cable to ensure that they are not damaged.
  3. Reconnect the USB data cable to the drive and the computer. Check the connections to ensure that they are secure.

Note: If you have a Portable Hard Drive with a 2-line USB/power cable, connect both the data line and the supplemental power line (usually marked with a lightning bolt icon) to USB ports on the computer. If the status light on the drive glows steadily, the drive is receiving power. Go to step E.
  4. If you are connecting an Iomega Desktop Hard Drive, check the power supply connections to the drive and power outlet to ensure that they are secure.
  5. Restart the computer.
  6. Double click the Computer or My Computer to see if the Iomega Hard Drive is detected.

If the Iomega Hard Drive is detected, you can now use the drive.

If the Iomega Hard Drive is not detected, please try another USB cable and/or power supply (if available). If the Iomega Hard Drive is still not detected, continue with the next step.

if that doesn't work go to this helpful site and follow the Steps one by one to fix this problem

Ted this problem start when you installed a flash drive or any other usb devise or did you map a network drive or anything like that if you did you need to unplug from the hardware settings in control panel then you need to reinstall the iomega if it does not work after that take it to anouther computer and see if you can get it to work
if all else fails I would find somebody that has a linux system and see if the can boot it up and get your data off for you.

An external storage-device has four major components:

* the USB cable

* the power-adapter

* the disk-drive inside the enclosure

* the USB-to-disk-drive adapter inside the enclosure.

One of these components has failed.

Try a different USB cable.

Try connecting to a different USB port on your computer.

Try connecting to a USB port on a different computer.

Take a "multi-meter" and measure both the voltage and amperage output from the AC adapter, and compare with the specifications on the label on the adapter.

Open the enclosure, and remove the disk-drive, and then connect it as a "slave" disk-drive in a desktop computer, to see if it works at all.

Purchase a new, compatible, disk-drive, and install it in the enclosure, to "revive" your external storage device.

Get the part-number and serial-number from the label on your disk-drive, and access the manufacturer's web-site, and use "check warranty status", to see if they will replace the device, at minimal cost to you.

There exist commercial "data recovery" services that can try to repair your device, just long-enough to rescue and copy your files. For example, see: for a "no data - no charge" guarantee.

Hello, I plugged in my iomega 1tb desktop hard drive storage device and the drive does not appear in my drive or computer. I do have the new hardware 'sound' that comes up but I dont have the drive show up...

Iomega 1TB Desktop Hard Drive is a dedicated usb 2.0 plug and play external storage device that has an ability to transfer at 480Mbits/second. having these large capacity storage drive needs a fast connection and additional power source to make sure to run the external unit system properly.

just make sure both power and data cables are properly plugged and connected respectively. if you are using it with a desktop, please always plug your usb connection from the Iomega 1TB external drive to the rear USB port in line where you built-in LAN not plug it in the frontload ports. some motherboard manufacturers uses usb 1 and/or 1.1 only for frontload desktop casing provision.

    thank you.
