In most cases the front jacks are in addition to the rear ones. It's not an either/or situation. If the speakers are connected to the rear jacks (usually green for speakers and pink for mic) and there is no sound, you might have a problem with the onboard sound. Try connecting to the rear jacks with a good set of speakers and try it out. If this doesn't work then we can go from there.

1. check if your front panel is connected to your motherboard at proper port2. check "expert mode" on your via hd audio deck, click "advanced options" and check "redirected headphone" (THIS WILL UNCHECK "INDEPENDENT HEADPHONE") and uncheck "enable front panel jack detection"
this should solve your problem.

Sound not working properly

Hi ragnar590,
Please go over pages 5-12 to 5-17 in your manual.
Allow Realtek's auto jack-sensing software to detect your sound jack. If this software is not installed, install it. (Double check your speaker system by plugging into another PC). If after doing all this & you still have intermittent sound, either the jack coming off the board is bad or the onboard sound chip is bad. The Asus P5ND2-SLI was made in 2005 & is no longer in warranty. You can also try setting up the front panel audio coming off the board if your case has front or side audio/mic jacks. See page 2-31 in your manual.
It this options works than the problem is with the rear sound jack.
If this does not give you sound than the audio chip is the problem. Suggest you buy a PCI sound card & disable the onboard ALC850 within the bios.

Good luck ragnar590!
Mike

No audio sound, mic doesn't work.

Hi,
For audio please install the mother board audio drivers for your PC. The driver cd is provide with motherboard when it is purchased. If this doesn't work, try connecting the speaker jack to front panel of your cpu.
For mic to work properly, make sure you connected the pink color jack of the speaker to the pink port of the cpu(Back side of cpu).
If did nor find drivers, download it from the internet by giving the motherboard type and the number.
I hope it should work now. Thank you

Audio deosn't work on mobo

Hi Chris, the problem can be one of two issues. If the sound jack located at the back of the PC did function at the same time as the front case sound jack. Than the problem is the jack it's self is bad. (Back of PC). Someone had to hook up the front mic & sound jack to the motherboard. So disconnecting the front sound & mic may give you rear sound & mic.
Turn to page 2-29 in you're user manual for the Asus M2N-SLI. The pic shown is the default setting for the front case audio & mic. (What you do see are the two jumpers connected). So disconnect any connector & place a jumper over pins 9 & 10, (last two pins at the right of the two rows of pins). Place another jumper over pins 5 & 6.
Pin 1 is the first pin on the left bottom row (MIC2). Pin 2 is the first pin, left edge top row (AGND). Pin 8 is not installed but you still count its spot as if there was a pin. (This is how the board was setup from factory). Once you fix this you should regain sound & mic function at the rear of the PC. To fine tune the audio run the Asus sound effect manager. If you installed this software, (Recommended). If it’s not by you're clock than it’s in control panel.

MSI 915o comboAudio front panel

Some cases come with a Mic & speaker jack/ cable. These jacks sit within the case. Rather than using the rear Mic which is (colored pink) & speaker (colored green). These 2 colored cables run from the front of the case & out through an emty hole in the back of the case. Which you connect them to the rear of the boards Mic in (pink) & sound (green). Now you can use your front audio jacks for both mic & sound. This may sound strange but I have come across many cases just like this. Its not uncommon to have 2 front usbs & a 1394 connect on to the board as well. Without your manual I'm sorry I can not help you fauther.

Sony KV- 32V35 Front Jacks

Yes, the front RCA jacks on the Sony sets always seem to crack loose. I have seen that many, many times. To get to those jacks, you will have to remove the back of the TV and carefully pull out the main chassis, taking care not to pull out any wires or jacks. When the main chassis slides back, there is a smaller board in front of the main board, and the pushbuttons and RCA jacks are on that smaller board. The connectors to that board usually come off when you slide the main chassis back, so you will need to put those jacks back in place when reassembling. Slide the smaller board back, flip it over and resolder the connections on the RCA jacks. Sometimes I find that the copper trace to the center pin of the video (yellow) RCA jack is broken, so test for continuity and solder a small jumper wire to take the place of the cracked copper trace if necessary. Reassembnle the set and your jacks should be working fine.
