Everything works fine (sounds great and remote works) but it wont charge. I know there are problems with early ipods but mine is a 5th gen Ipod video so should be fine. I have tried with and with out the adaptor plates but no change.

Re: Bose ipod dock - black - wont cahge ipod g5
A low-cost option to fix teh charging issue is buy and fit the charge upgrade board from Invebo. They do several versions for the Bose Sounddock Original. I fitted one with the innexxis BC6 charge and Bluetooth upgrade with the later tougher docking connector. (A new docking connector is fitted when you fit the upgrade) There is a great instruction video and it took about five minutes to fit. Sounds great - bought my dock bang up to date with wireless streaming.

You probably have a broken docking connector or bad power supply. Contact www.invebo.com to get a replacement board. It takes minutes to fit. They also sell the USB charge upgrade to enable you dock to charge the IPHONE on the Soundock original.
My remote worked perfectly until I changed the battery. The original battery was CL 2032 and I replaced it with DL 2032. After replacing the battery, only the volume control works. The off button will only fade the sound while the button is depressed. Release the button, and the volume returns to the original level and the unit remains On.
None of the other buttons work.

i spoke with bose tech support today because my docking system had no sound...everything else was fine, but no sound. they told me to take the battery pack off of the back, then reset my ipod by holding down the center button at the same time as the menu button for about 5 seconds (the apple icon will display), then reconnect the battery pack to the back of the dock and retry. it worked! good luck.
The new SoundDock II charges your new iPod touch and is fully compatible all iPods and the iPhone 3G. Also the SoundDock Portable will do this.
Better news-> Call Bose. They can upgrade the 30-pin connector to charge via USB-only and function with the remote as well. $99. This will make your iPod touch 100% compatible and somewhat future-proof your SoundDock.
If the SoundDock was purchased within 90 days (at full retail price), they will do the upgrade for a smaller fee or even free I think.. (new 1 year warranty given with repair/mod)
btw- This is an Apple issue, not a Bose issue. All 3rd party iPod connection devices had to make this change at some point.
Bothe the docking station and the remote are useless I recommend you buy a universal remote control. For the Ipod switching off-it does'nt switch off reason being it has it's own battery and does not depend on the electrical power of the docking station.
Hey I figured it out. When you bought the 4th generation ipod nano it came with it's own dock insert. It fits perfectly and fixes everything, including the remote issues. Now my only problem is I have a black ihome and a white insert :( Good luck!
I had the same issue, it just stopped working today for no reason. Since it's out of Warranty and Bose charges too much to fix it, I took the bottom off, cleaned all the contacts, applied some dialectric silicone compound to the contacts, put it back together... and it works great!
