i'm sorry. I don't think you understand. We have the machine taken apart. We push it in by hand, but it doesn't open. If it played that would be fine, but it always says that it's open rather than reading the disc (even after we have pushed it in).

My xbox won't read my dvds it tell me to open tray

you should try cleaning it with an actual dvd cleaning disc. if that doesn't work you may need to get a replacement drive and swap them out.

Xbox 360 - Stuck or sticking tray fix!

If your Xbox 360 DVD drive won’t eject it can be a very simple fix.

The Samsung drive is almost always a very simple fix, if you have another drive, it may be more difficult.

To identify your drive, follow this guide:

• Remove the faceplate by firmly grasping the opening for the USB ports and pulling.
• Underneath the DVD tray there should be a small hole.
• Look at the wires in the hole to identify which drive type you have.

Red and Black Wires = Samsung Drive
Yellow Wires = LiteOn Drive
White Wires = BenQ Drive
No Wires = Hitachi Drive

SAMSUNG:

It is very common for a Samsung drive to not eject. It’s a very simple fix for this!

1. Power on your Xbox 360
2. Press the eject button
3. When the Xbox 360 “tries” to eject, just simply push in on the tray cover.

That should make it eject!

If it does not, please follow the guide for the other drives below:

This requires you to disassemble your Xbox 360. IF you don’t know how, look it up on google, there are plenty of guides.

Then follow these steps:

1. Remove your Xbox 360 DVD drive from the Xbox 360
2. Turn over and remove the four screws securing the drive (6 screws if it’s a Hitachi)
3. Remove the top cover of the DVD drive.
4. Put the drive back in the Xbox 360, connect the wires, and power on your Xbox 360.
5. Once the 360 powers on, eject the drive. Most of the time it should eject normally. If it doesn’t you may have to force it.
6. Unplug the Xbox 360. If you turn it off with the power button the tray will close first, we need it open.
7. Near the front of the drive, you should now be able to see and access a small rubber band that was hidden by the tray.
8. Remove the band, lubricate and replace.
9. Replace the top cover and hook up and test.
10. If that doesn’t work, you may need a new rubber band. If you can get one of the right size, replace and test.

My xbox 360 is not playing the games nd it didn't have no ring of death at all whats wrong with my xbox 360

Listen to the console carefully...if it sounds like the disc is being read and spinning then the lens could be dirty. If the disc does not spin it could be two things, one of which I have experienced and repaired. 1: the disc motor could be dead, or 2: the lens cradle is stuck somewhere on the track (I had this one).

If the cradle is stuck then it will make a barely audible clicking sound. To fix this I dismantled my box and the disc drive (WARNING: It voids the 3 year warranty!!!) and pushed the cradle to the center of the tray. Afterward, I opened and closed the tray to see visibly if the laser got stuck again...it didn't. I put a disc in and it read perfectly. So I pieced it all back together in hopes that I was successful. I did it at work earlier so I don't know the end outcome. So far it sounds perfect, disc and all.

Hope I helped =J

Xbox wont start spinning disc

Sounds like your drive died. Try looking inside to make sure nothing is stuck insde the drive (disc label, another disc, lumps of dust). Try spraying it out with canned air (they sell it at computer stores). If not.. send it to microsoft for repair.

Xbox 360 disc drive

To april23

what has most likely happened is that the magnet which holds disks in place has dis-lodged and is now stuck to the roof of the dvd drive. Unfortunately the only way to resolve this would be to open up the xbox 360 and open up the dvd drive to fix.

So if you're not confident at this or in doubt in any way I'd contact Microsoft first if it's still under warranty, if not then it's a case of opening up the drive yourself I'm afraid.

Note. Does the drive attempt to spin up when you put a disk in?

Or does it just make small noises then nothing except "open tray" on screen?
