I installed Dimage x onto

I installed Dimage x onto my new laptop with windows vista. First, I received a message that it was not compatible...but then there was something to click that made it compatible. After that I downloaded pictues and it worked fine.
I went to go online and there was a problem. I decided to do a system restore and no matter what I did, I'd get a non-specified error. A guy from HP told me the camera software corrupted files and I'd have to do a system recovery.

1) is this correct?
2)how do I get an updated version (my cd says version 1.11
