Question about AT&T E5965C Cordless Phone

AT&T 5.8Ghz; E5965C; Hangup Issues

We have an AT&T 5.8GHz; E5965C with three remotes throughout the house. We have a problem that frequently after a call is made that the phone is returned back to the charging cradle in an off-hook state. If we do not select' 'off''' on the handheld phone before it is returned to the cradle it often remains off-hook for many hours (at least until a family member notifies us that our phone has been off-hook for the majority of the day. What can we do about this? It would be OK if the phone would stay off-hook for some period of time and then after some time-out went on-hook; however, it can stay in this 'busy' state for most of the day. We have tried to re-educate everyone who uses these phones about this issue; however, everyone expects the phone to go back on hook once the phone is returned to its cradle so it seems to be a loosing battle. We are now at the point if we can not get this problem resolved, we will probably change out all of the phones in our house.

do you have the phone with an answering machine like:

http://www.generalmanual.com/Telephones/GE-25932EE1-Cordless-5-8GHz-Edge-Phone.htm

Or are you using a voice mail system on your phone line? If so, contact the voicemail company or your phone company for information on how to change the number of rings before the forward.

Good luck!

How does my 97 yr old Mom turn off the ans. machine and/or increase # of rings before ans. machine picks up on her old model Uniden 5-8ghz cordless?

Only a fix if you know a nurse at the life care center that is willing to look at the phone and use her experiance and expertice in dealing with the elderly to fix the phone problem! My Mom accidenally turned the ans. mach. on, ( she never returns calls anymore) the nurse knew exactly how to turn off. Any way, thanks.

Vonage customer, problem running through home phone wiring

Make sure you have disconnected the original phone line at the first entry point to your home. Even though regular phone service is disconnected (software) the original phone line carries some "noise" which can cause issues when trying to utilize existing phone wiring throughout the home.
