You will need to fix your computer, re-install the WD Sync software, and then synchronize. The files on your WD, using WD Sync, don't appear as regular files, rather a format unique to Sync.

WARNING: Do not think that theyourWD Passport, using the WD Sync software, is a
backup drive; it is NOT !

As per the documentation with this device:
"synchronization software is intended to synchronize the data from a
computer to the drive (WD Passport) and SHOULD NOT be used as backup
software. To use this software properly, we advise that you do not wipe or
erase the data from the internal hard drive (computer) and resynchronize, as
this will cause the data that WD Sync stored to the Passport to be deleted."

This is why you are hearing so many people saying that they are deleting the
WD Sync software, reformatting, and using the WC Passport as a true backup
drive where you can actually see the files that you are backing up, rather
than a bunch of unrecognizable sync files that likely don't have all the
files that you thought you "backed up".

Hi

I think you may have synchronized and as mention above if you synchronize with a pc that has been formatted your files will be removed. This problem has been fixed in the version 8 of there software you can download it here:

http://www.dmailer.com

If you have done this you can recover your data using the following steps;

use undelete software and try to recover your source (original location on the computer) files. Please find below a list of providers for this kind of software:
http://www.winundelete.com/?rid=google&kid=wu0406
http://www.recovermyfiles.com/
http://www.ontrack.com/software/

If you cannot recover the source files (original location on the computer) you will need to recover the Data folder on the root of your usb device. Once you have recovered your profile folder . We have a recovery tool that can recover data that WDSync doesn't detect anymore. This tool is available at this address:
http://www.dmailer.org/download/DataRecoveryTool.zip

When you have downloaded it, here are the steps to use it:
1. Launch it and go to "Profiles->Scan directory"
2. Select your "WD Sync Data" folder containing your synchronized data. You should see all your profiles being listed.
3. Select the profile you wish to synchronize and click "SaveAllTo"
4. Choose the destination folder.

All your files from your profile will be recovered in his directory. Please note that this tool is not able to recover file names; you will need to rename your files manually.

I am begging someone to help me PLEASE.I have WD Passport Ultra, I ACCIDENTALLY removed access to 'everyone' in Security. Then Passport turned to NTFS and is now 'Local File F:.Help how do I repair?

First off don't freak your data is still there. If you were to plug that drive into a Linux computer you simply copy all the data. Anyhow in windows it sounds like you just need to take back ownership of the drive. so right click on the drive in Windows then Properties click on the Security Tab and hit that Advanced button. Then click on the Owner tab and click on edit. Then click on Other users or groups and add your user back. and put a check in the Replace owner on subcontainers and objects. I think that will do the trick.

check the compatibility of the external hard drive. It might not support Mac. Probabely you external hard is in NTFS format and you need to reformat/re-partition it for using it in Mac OS.

The my passport 1 tb drive works fine one several computers. However on some laptops i got, and my friends it makes the computer crash after typing password. After typing password its instant blue screen...

I would try backing up any data you need to a PC it works with and then try formatting it with a full format not a quick format then try plugging it into a computer which it normally crashes with while it is still blank. If that is working copy your data back and see what happens. ...cheers from Scott

My passport is not woring it just making a vibrating sound and the computer not locating it

Unfortunately, those sound like the symptoms of a failing hard drive. If you cannot access the files on it, they may be gone for good. You may need to send your hard drive in to a data recovery service, but these are often expensive, time consuming, and are not guaranteed to recover all of your data. There are some tricks you can try as a last ditch effort, however.
It is recommended that you always keep back ups of your files.

My computer is not recognizing my Western Digital passport elite what do I do?

Have to check it in the Device Manager that the new device have been detected or not. It may happen that when the external HDD connects to the computer for the first time computer cannot detect it as it is not properly formatted in proper file-system. Open Computer Management and click on Disk Management and format the device correctly to operate.

You can use your WD Passport to sychronize data on multiple computers, you just need to set up the other computer name (e.g. "Work computer")using the software.
