Question about Kenwood KDC-MP632U

Display is OUT but everything functions....... what to do?

My display on the faceplate has stopped working, is there a battery in this unit or some type of recall or fix for this ?

Help! I had the same problem on my 632u, and once I soldered the resistors that tech48 suggested, it worked right away. I'm happy since I was 2 seconds away from going to buy another one.

By Main board do you mean in the removalable face plate or the actual unit?

I just followed tech48's solution by resoldering the resistors on the main board.

I had the same problem and I resoldered the resistors on the board inside the stereo and it worked. Unscrew and remove the top cover and the CD slot. There are 10 of them located on the lower right side of the board. Good luck.

DISPLAY ON MY KENWOOD STEREO STOPPED WIORKING

Hi there,

I also created a tutorial on fixing faceplates with 2R7 resistors (refer to my tip).

But, your unit will have a different chassis, as the faceplate is also a video display.

First you need to determine if the buttons on the faceplate are operating the various functions. If the buttons are NOT operating, then the faceplate itself (or connection to the main unit) can be considered faulty.

It's highly probable that the RIBBON cable (which connects faceplate to the inside of the unit) may be defective - this is common in some Kenwood units.

Try searching Google or youtube for ribbon cable repairs etc.

Hope this leads you in the right direction.

Cheers,

Scott

SYMPTOM: No Display.
COUNTERMEASURE: Re-solder the following components on PCB X34-415:
R43, R44, R46, R47, R48, R49, R50, R51, R55, and R57.

Ok so if you remove the top of the unit and cd player down the right side you see a line of surface resistors that say 2R7 on them, they all need to be resolders to the bord theres 9 total.

CD player and everything works fine but there is no display .....

Well, my display went out earlier this week. Took it apart and found out that the LCD on the 501dpx was burnt out. I also found out all we have to do is replace the whole faceplate instead of the system

The problem is not the faceplate for any of you, it is inside the main unit. If you know how to solder, you can fix is very easy. First take the top off the unit, there is 1 screw in the back middle. Then take the CD player out. It has 2 screws holding it in at the front corners at the bottom of the CD deck. Use a number 2 phillips and take out the gold screws holding the CD deck in place. Then you can pull out the CD deck, and be careful not to damage the ribbon cable connected from the CD deck to the main board. The deck can just sit up and over to the left to get it out of the way for what needs to be soldered.
Look inside the main unit on the board and you will see in the front right corner a series of surface mount resistors all connected in series. Just reflow that solder on them with a small amount of new solder added and the display will once again work perfectly. That solder is very heat stressed, that is the problem. I have fixed dozens of these over the last few years. Make sure you put it back together the same as it came apart, and you are done.
