Question about Kenmore Washing Machines

Timer stops at the end of wash cycle, won't began drain cycle

This is an older Kenmore heavy duty 70 series washer. The load was too large or off center when the drain/spin cycle started. The machine began to bounce around so I stopped it. When the load was balanced I tried to restart the drain cycle with no success. I restarted the wash cycle in various places on the timer dial, but each time when the timer/wash cycle gets to the drain cycle it stops and will not move to the next cycle.

If it fills and agitates but stops at the drain/spin portion, it sounds like you have a problem with the lid switch. if it thinks the lid is opne, it will not drain or spin.

Kenmore Heavy Duty 70 Series Leaking in the back

If you bought a new washer and you still have a leak, i guess it was not the washer but where it drains into. Sink or stand pipe has a leak. unless you are useing the old drain hose from your old washer. Dry up everything and look for the sorse of water with a bright light when the washer drains .

Kenmore washing machine will not drain

Replace the timer.
This is a neutral drain machine. If there is no natural pause in the timer at the end of the rinse cycle the timer is bad.

You most likely have a broken coupler between the motor and gearcase.
You can buy the part for about $10 or have someone come out and replace it for about $150-200.
If you will post the complete model number from the the washer so I can see which style cabinet you have, I will try to walk you through the repair. It isn't very complicated if you are handy with home repairs.
With the age of the machine it probably just needs a coupler, but it could also have a problem in the transmission or basket drive that has caused the failure.
