I was updating my sons PSP. Hasn't been used for a couple of years. It was 41% updating when my husband turned it off. Now it won't even turn on? What can I do?

You can try restting your device by performing the following;

Remove the battery from the left side of the PSP while it is still on. The unit will power down instantly. Wait 10 seconds and then replace the battery.Press both clear shoulder buttons at the top of the PSP and keep them held down while the PSP reboots. This initiates a "Recovery" mode.press down on the control pad to locate a "recovery" folder. This will contain all of your PSP content, including games, music, videos and podcasts that are saved on the device. Highlight this folder and press the "X" button to begin reinstalling your content.

You might want to charge it because it might be dead or you can take out the battery and insert it back after 5 minutes.

Son interrupted a firm ware update now PSP won't turn on

my investigations suggest that your son has "bricked" the PSP. Basically the memory that stores the firmware is corrupt and apparently only a main board replacement will fix the issue.

A google search found THIS. I have no affiliation with them and have never used them though.. might be worth a call at least??

PSP won't power on

When you play a new game for the first time, the psp checks for the firmware version of your psp. If a newer version is available, the disc will require you to update your psp. If you do not update the game cannot be played. If you update, you MUST charge the battery 1st. Then, you must have the charge plugged in and allow the update to run uninterrupted. If you remove the game or unplug the charger during the update the bios chip will be ruined and you now have little more than a "brick".
When this happens, the unit completely locks up and has to be replaced. Basically, it corrupts the operating system and there is no ability to restore default settings as a back-up.

PSP Won't turn on

Try this>

Start with the PSP turned off. Press and hold the R button when your turning on the power. Turn it off again, then back on. Sometimes this works. If not, your PSP is probably Bricked.
This means that you done something to interupt an upload or program in progress. The eeprom program is corrupted and the PSP will not boot up. The term Bricked, refers to your PSP being no better than a black Brick paper weight. I have heard of a repair for this called Pandoras Battery. I am not sure if the Pandoras battery really works to restore Bricked PSP's. It may be worth a try for you to take a chance on Pandoras Battery.
