Connect the camera. Remove the batteries, without touching the upper buttons.Let it open 30 min or more. Then put the batteries, and restart the camera. This worked in my case

How do I remove the lens of a HP Photosmart 850 Camera?

Repairing camera is a specialty. so unless you have this skill you'll have to let someone else fix it. i sent my camera to be fixed to: they were reasonably priced and have a 6 month warranty. they're pretty quick also.

Flash not working

Assuming that you haven't put the camera into a mode in which flash is disabled, either the charging capacitor or flash bulb is defective. It will have to be serviced so the appropriate part can be replaced.

No flash in any mode

Either the flash tube or the charging circuit/capacitor have failed.

There is no realistic fix: the camera is around five years old and no longer supported by HP so original parts are not available. Generic parts may well do the job but will cost more to buy and fit than you'll pay to replace your camera with a good used example and if you fit them and they don't work then you'll have wasted your money. If they do work then the camera will need re-calibrating to the flash output which will be different to the original parts, this needs special servicing software which HP never released freely.

Sorry to disappoint you, but when you can replace your model with the superb Sony DSC-V1 in excellent full working order for under £30 it makes any kind of repair attempt to your model non-viable. The PhotoSmart 733 is near worthless second-hand, so you won't often see them for sale.

I hope that you've still found my posting to be of some use and ask only that you return the favour by rating my answer.

When using the flash, camera shows charging flash and freezes up the camera

I contacted HP tech, after trying several resets and other setting changes, I was informed that it would cost more to fix the camera then its worth - No longer under warnaty.
I can use the camera as long as I disable the flash.
Go out a buy a Canon, I did and its a lot better camera.

Can i use a power cord and not use batteries?

The camera will work with the charger cord plugged in, but you are limited to taking photos only near a power source. I have the same issue; broken battery door...Still looking for another hard broke 850 to take parts off of.
