Question about Maxtor Hard Drive

2 Answers

I have a Maxtor n256 external hard drive that quit running

The internal motor that runs the n256 will not start any more. It has worked fine for a few years. I need to retrieve the contents or get it to run. Got an answer?
Thanks

You will need to take it to a data recovery professional of the drive has failed, replacing the motor is not really a option it will most likely damage the drive.

A data recovery professional will cost but if the drive is damaged and you need the files recovered you will need to pay for it..

You are going to have to send the drive to a lab if it won't spin any longer. Just google data recovery and it will provide you with some options

By SEPARATE I am taking that to mean an external drive and not an internal mounted drive. If IT IS external the same power supply should work fine as the drive motors are the same in both models. IF IT IS Internal then the question is whether your power supply is molex or ATA.

This depends on your country, i.e whether you can easily get what I'm about to tell you to buy from any computer store.
There is an external drive case that is being sold at many computer stores now that can actually enable you to connect your harddrive to it, then it has an external USB cable that will make you to be able plug it in any available USB port on a system (I recommend USB port 2.0 for high speed rate). So you can just get that and trust me, you'll be fine...lol.
Hope this helps.
Goodluck!

Couple of questions first: -What operating system was running on the new and old PC? -Is the old PC still running and available? Once you answer these we?ll start work.
