Quasar HQ2121 Air Conditioner

Quasar Air Conditioner

By jessie25 - usenet poster

I having a simple problem that I hoped the manufacturer would
solve, but the company seems impossible to contact.

I need to clean the drip trays on two Quasar HQ2121 air
conditioners.  There seems to be no way to take these trays out.  Does
anyone know the trick?

        TIA

This surprises me.  The reason I need to clean them is that
mold in growing in them and making people sick.  It seems to me that
after the Legionaires Disease decades ago manufacturers would have
seen the need to be able to clean these units.

And where did the mold come from? Inside..

Decades ago? We HVAC guys still worry about it. Every damn time we open up a
unit. You just never know...sickest I have been was not long ago when I
opened up an old heat pump, oversized, and had not been run in a
year....replacing the unit for the sale of the home...got a lungfull of
spores when the cover came off, and a week later, thought I was gonna
die....infection of the lungs from that...ANOTHER reason I put a UV-C band
lamp in my units.
As far as cleaning the units, its simple...pull out, take out, and service
the entire unit..clean the evap and condensor....the units today are NOT
designed to drain water and use a slinger fan to increase the capacity and
efficentcy ratings on the units....they are also, considered throw away
units, unless you go the PTAC route and those use a standard evap pan drain.

Thank you very much for the information.  It's becoming
obvious that we're not the only ones suffering from this problem.

Be kind enough to elaborate on a few things for me.

When you say you put a UV-C band lamp in your units, does that
mean you install the lamp inside the air conditioner itself?  If I
wanted to do something like this, what sort of lamp would I look for?

Refresh my memory what PTAC means.

                Thank you very much.

Package Terminal Air Conditioner.

Much like the motel units installed under the windows.

Hi,

I have seen the model. They may not come out. You might have to pull the unit
and try to work it clear. I guess the pan is filling and overflowing right?
There must be a drain tube or gully leading to the outside that is plugged up.
If you cannot get it clean from where it is you may need to go otside or poull
it..:(

Hi,

That is part of the model#.

Drips trays? *Usually* need to remove and dismantle room a/c's for
clean them out.

There will be a styrofoam drain trough that directs the water to the
back of the unit, this may be clogged/restricted.
