I can not get my wireless adapter to work on my laptop

I recently purchased a wireless router Model #WRT54GS and a wireless usb adapter #WUSB54GSC I have a desk top computer, but I want to be able to use my laptop wireless. I spent over an hour on the phone with one of you techicians and supposedly had it all set up to work, but when I put in the usb adapter in my laptop, it says disabled. What is wrong, or is it not set up right?

Thanks....When I get to the part where you say connect the wireless usb dongle to the laptop and download necessary drivers what do you mean? There are no little icon on the bottom right side.

I have the same problem. The icon in my system tray is gray and says disabled when I highlight this. If you right click there are no options to enable. If you go to the device manager it is enabled. I've uninstalled and reinstalled numerous times and the same thing happens.

First you need to connect the wireless router to your desktop computer through an RJ45 Cable and setup a new wireless network. to do this you go to control panal you'll find (Wireless Network Setup icon) click on it and go through the process, when you get to "network key" select automatically assign a network key then select setup my network manually and next, then finish. once you do that, now you have a wireless network. connect the wireless usb dongle to the laptop and download necessary drivers for it once it shows on the little icons on the bottom right of the screen right click on it and it should have an option to enable the it. if not, then the dongle has the wrong driver installed or its faulty. once its enabled, go to my network places and choose wireless network and click search for wireless networks, you should find your Router's network, select it and click connect and that should be all.

let me know if you need more help and try to give me error messages and steps you did before, so i can help you. good luck !!!

when you first connect the WUSB to the laptop it should recognize it automaticaly and install drivers or ask for driver software that should be included with the WUSB that should be installed. install the driver that came with the WUSB first if its available, if not search for it on the net.

Can't find my WEP or Passphrase key. Please help!

The WEP or Passphrase encryption key is in the router's wireless settings.
To connect to your wireless router, the router's wireless settings needs to be configured with the SSID, encryption etc. and also the USB wireless card in the laptops/computers needs to be configured with these router's wireless settings. Then the laptops/computers can communicate with your wireless router.

To secure your wireless network from unauthorized access, please click on this link and follow my instructions :-http://www.fixya.com/support/r3559128-wireless_router_security

My WUSB54GSC network adapter worked Ok for six months but now keeps saying limited or no connectivity. Tried unin stalling and resetting. Hasn't worked - same problem keeps coming back.

If the wireless security on the router is enabled, then the pre-shared key or encryption key on the router and PC should match.

You will need to check the settings on the wireless router to confirm this.

Wireless-g usb adapter fails to connect to router

if your wireless router has security enabled, as a first troubleshooting step you can try disabling the security. then see if the USB adapter can connect. IF it still cannot conenct check for the default channel on the router and on the adapter side.

Linksys WRT54gs router not seen by Mac

The firmware from Linksys doesn't work. Don't waste your time. Maybe the following freeware from http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm could help. "LSP-Fix" is a utility to repair a loss of Internet access by repairing the LSP chain by removing the entries left behind when LSP software is removed or altered by malware or spyware remover. Sometimes ZoneAlarm does the damage as well when blocking intruders. Hope it works for you.

Signal strenth

Ok, since im figuring these are fairly new products, you should call Linksys, concidering you are still under warranty. If I were to make a guess, maybe you needed to forward or open a port on the router to allow signal to flow between the two.

Good Signal,Good Mbps, Slow Internet Connection?

1. Try to use a different wireless adapter on all available USB ports, if the problem remains then
2. turn off your PC unplug the power cord from the power socket, short the two legs of the power cable then leave it for 5min, then plug it into the power socket again and turn on the PC.

if this didnt work then you have a hardware problem with the USB ports.

let me know how it works out.
