Do a half self test. To do this print anything and open the cartridge door when paper feeds into the printer but before it reaches the fuser. This will tell you if problem is with toner or fuser. In order to check the fuser remove toner, in back of printer you'll see a cover held in by 2 screws. remove screws and gently pry cover enough that you can shine flashlight and see the fuser film. If torn replace fuser.

This is a purge unit problem. I suspect the white slider on the purge has stuck (not uncommon).
Power up the printer and when you hear the motor churning pull out the mains plug. Open the main cover and push the carriage to left of its travel. Now exposed on the right is the purge unit. You will see the white slider on its top. Just nudge it and power up again. Hopefully thats all it needs.

Noise while printing - Diagnosis Pt 1

<p>Unexpected noise (such as clicking, thumping, or grinding) from an branded device are heard during printer operation.<br /> <br /> <span><b>NOTE: </b></span><br /> Noises can be caused by a number of things, some of which may not be addressed in this document. This document deals strictly with the isolation and potential resolution of known noises through troubleshooting.<br /> <p>The following table describes some of the noises to be expected in a printer functioning normally:<br /> <span>Noise occurs:</span> <br /> <span>Additional information:</span> <br /> During power-up<br /> When the printer periodically makes humming and buzzing sounds as the carriage assembly moves around on the right/left side of the printer, the printer is actually cleaning the ink cartridges. HP color laser 2550L prints only in yellow

Hi Mmgrafde,

Press the Go and Rotate Carousel buttons simultaneously. This will calibrate the printer. See if this works.

Otherwise....Remove all cartridges and drum. Switch off printer. Close the lid. Switch on printer and wait until any churning stops. Insert the drum and close the lid. Wait until any churning stops. Put in one cartridge at a time, closing the lid and wait till it stops churning each time. With the last cartridge put in, it will churning longer (calibrating). Try to print from your computer.

It could also be that the toner could actually have run out for the other colors.

How to interrupt a printing job and cancel it

Hi, I hope I can help.

Your printer has some of the pages stored in memory, and your computer also has some of the pages stored in the memory (spooler) on your computer.

If you turn off the printer, the computer thinks the printer went off-line and it waits for it to come back on, and then just keep churning off pages. OR.... Something will get messed up and 100's of garbage pages will start churning out.

The deal is to clean out the memory on the printer, AND clean out the spooler on the computer.

Simplest way (hopefully) is to turn off both units. That may solve it. However, sometimes the spooler on the computer will keep trying to print. Down in the lower right hand corner of your screen should be a picture of a printer. Double click that and you'll see the print job. You should be able to select the print job, hit delete, and clear it from the spooler.

Hope this works.
