Toshiba Satellite A205-SS5000's dvd drive

If i stay on my Toshiba Satellite A205-SS5000 for any amount of time its dvd drive won't eject. It just flashes a yellow/amber light at me. If i restart it will work again, but it's extremly fustrating to have to turn my comp off all the time, and impossible to download things that have multiple disks.

A virus can cause that problem but it could be as simple as the drive going bad. I would formatt & do a clean OS install. That would rule out a virus problem.

1) ALL power removed. Remove the AC adapter (Charger), and Battery.

2) Turn the laptop over bottom side up, Battery Compartment facing AWAY from you, down on a table.
You may wish to lay a soft Static free cloth on the table, to prevent scratching the table, or laptop.

3) Take this cover off,

http://www.irisvista.com/tech/laptops/toshiba-satellite-a205/big/toshiba-satellite-a200-a205-02.jpg

Remove the Ram Memory module/s. ('Stick')
Lay them/it carefully aside. Handle by the BODY. The Body is everywhere on the Ram Memory module, EXCEPT the gold plated contact pins at the bottom.

The Body is coated with a see-through protective plastic.

4) Remove this Philips head screw, and push the optical drive out,

http://www.irisvista.com/tech/laptops/toshiba-satellite-a205/big/toshiba-satellite-a200-a205-03.jpg

The top of the optical drive will have small Philips head screws, or Torx screws. They sell Torx screwdrivers real cheap,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Torx

Remove the screws, remove the cover, remove the disk.

How to replace dvd drive in toshiba laptop a205

Hello,

shut down the system and remove the battery.

Look under the PC, on the dvd drive area, you will see a screw, use a screw driver to unscrew it and push the drive out from there.

Take care.

Toshiba satellite A205 DVD player partially Inop

The disk drive could be going bad, or the lens may be dirty.

Try getting a dvd lens cleaning kit if you don't already have one, and run that. Make sure to read all the instructions that come with the cleaning kit.

Servvices manual to help me change my dvd-rom for toshiba satellite A205.

In order to change your DVD drive you need not take your system apart, there should be one screw on the bottom near your drive to remove which will allow you to slide the drive out.

Should you feel more comfortable with a picture guide, here's a link

You can do it, don't get discouraged.

On my Toshiba Satellite a205-s4707 dvd player not working

Allright this one can be tricky so we need to isolate the problem between software and hardware.

First, get into the bios and see it's being detected.

If not then turn off the computer and unscrew the drive from the laptop, MAJORITY of laptops only need to have one screw unscrewed to release the drive. If yours doesn't then you'll have to do a little more work, let's just assume you have the majority for now.

Next, pull the drive out, feel free to give the back connector a quick puff of air, now carefully place the drive back into the laptop so that it's nice and tight.

Check to see if that solves your problem.

If not we'll try something else.
