I tried that site, but couldn't find the nero you mentioned. I'm after a free player to play dvd's on my lap-top, but after an hour of trying, could only find pay sites. Any ideas? Thanks. Paul.

You need to download a program called Nero DVD player. Goto www.download.com and download the free version for a PC. This should install the necessary drivers to your laptop. Let me know how this goes.

not really...unfortuanetly they all have gotten smart! You will have to buy a player for $19-25, but i recommend Nero or DVD Gold. No real way around it my friend!

    Thanks.

Sometimes when you buy a software program they come with a player. Also, some DVD's YOU BUY, not RENT, come with "Actual Player" on the disc already so you can Play them...but test before you buy at a used DVD/Game shop!

I just bought a brand new Toshiba Satellite P75-A7200. It won't play DVD's and keeps saying wrong area code...I live in Australia, bought the PC in Australia and am trying to play Australian DVD's but

hi, I think this may help. what you need to do first of all is change the default player for DVD's from Toshiba Video Player to Windows Media Player, cant remember off hand how to do that but should be in manual, but try this. go to windows control panel, select 'Default Programs' and click on it, then select 1st option 'Set Your Default Programs' a list of all programs will come up, look for Windows Media Player and click on it, then choose one of the options on the right. The top one sets as default, the bottom one allows you to set file types to open with the program. this should work as it is telling your system to launch that program for DVD's etc, If you cant find your control panel, simply click Start and type it in the little box that appears just above it.
hope this helps

Toshiba M55-S331 will play DVD's but not CD's..

Sounds like a codec problem, or settings.
www.freecodecs.com
visit the above link for the latest codec packs.
Or try opening my computer, right clicking on the drive and setting autoplay options.

Toshiba satellite A205 DVD player partially Inop

The disk drive could be going bad, or the lens may be dirty.

Try getting a dvd lens cleaning kit if you don't already have one, and run that. Make sure to read all the instructions that come with the cleaning kit.

Play dvd nothing - play s/d card (video) sound but no picture.

You need to update the dvd softwear. Check the default settings for playback of media,if it is set to windows media it won't work if you hav'nt installed the correct updates. Choose the Toshiba dvd player as the default player and it should work. If you prefer windows media then you can get the updated codecs from ' free-codecs.com ' Easier still, try uninstalling your windows media player and installing windows media 11, this will usually resolve the problem.
