After I run avira antivirus my desktop has gone blank

Few days back after I run avira antivirus my desktop has gone blank and it is neither showing any icon nor even start up menu. Wat to do ? Plz help as I have lot of data stored on it. I have the same problem with my Dell laptop running XP, which occurred after using SuperAntiSpyware. Help! I tried System Restore, but when I select a restore date and hit Next, nothing happens. It's also preventing me from running and/or updating all of my spy/malware programs.

I can get into safe mode, DJxtreme. Thanks for any help you can give.

Not right before, but just before it happend, I was using SuperAntiSpyware for the second time. It had turned up about 8 programs that it recommended I get rid of and I did so. To complete the process, the computer had to be rebooted and it was when it restarted that the my icons, start button and taskbar disappeared.

I've tried going to a restore point, but, after I select a date and time and hit "next", which should complete the process, nothing happens. The program appears to be blocked.

    Everything? That's maybe 30 things.

I tried to uncheck everything and got an "Access Denied" message saying that I need to log on using an Administrator account. I'm the only one who uses this laptop and I don't even know if I ever created such an account. How would I access one if I had given that I only have the Task manager to work with?

TO DJXtreme: I unchecked those boxes and rebooted, but it didn't help.

To Kenmanw: When I get into task manager and hit new task and type explorer.exe, I get a message that Windows cant' find explorer.exe.

IF you can, do the three finger salute to get to taskmgr and select file new and type explorer.exe to see if this brings up the icons and start menu

Ok, never heard of super antispyware. did you download it for free or was it purchased? While you are in safe mode select a restore point to before you did what that program instructed. Let me know what you find.

After you did that did the pc boot normally? If so, try using the restore point again.

My computer screen is blank from icons and no start menu

You have a virus! I would suggest running an offline virus checker such as Windows defender or Avira offline to cure it.

Hp 6730b when I shout down blocked whit blank screan and stop working and Imust use hard resset

You probably have some viruses and malware.

Start your PC and press F8 several times until the boot menu comes up. Then select "Safe Mode with Networking". Now get some or ALL of the FREE programs below.

Download, Install and Run Malwarebytes Anti-Malware:
When Installing choose the non-pro version.

Download, Unzip, Install and Run TDSSKiller:

Download, Install and Run Super Anti-Spyware:

If you have an outdated Anti-virus program then Download, Install and Run Avira Anti-Virus:
Make sure to select ALL of the "threat categories" when you install or configure Avira...

You should be in pretty good shape if you run and install all of these programs.

On starting up my d800 dell, all i see is a blank page with only the mouse cursor,i have use ait, ctr, del, to enter task manager,i cant find explorer.exe in the processes, It all started after i install...

Click Ctrl+Alt+Delto get to Task Manager. Hold the Ctrl key, plus Hold the Alt Key then hitthe Del key while holding them.Once the task manager opens Clcik the Processes tab then click the Image NameColumn heading on the left to get them in alphabetical order. Scroll downand look for explorer.exe. If you see it click it to highlight it thenclick End Process.

Next, click the FILE tab at the very top left of the window and select New Task(RUN). When the Create New Task window opens type explorer.exe and pressok. Your start menu, task bar and desktop icons will start appearing andpopulating. if not that means a virus has hidden your files and folders.

My computer is showing me an alert about viruses and it just keeps popping up how do i remove the viruses

If you have an Antivirus installed, run a scan on your entire Hard Drive, and with any luck it will find and correct the problem.

If not you should install an Antivirus program and after it is installed get the latest updates for it and then restart your computer and then do a complete scan of your Hard Drives.

many viruses today prevent you from installing an Antivirus program once they have penetrated your computer some do not even allow you to visit the common web pages of common antivirus companies. if this is the case download the McAfee Stinger, this is a stand alone scanner, and let it scann your complete hard drive. Hopefully it will find any viruses and correct the problem. Afterwards DEFINATLY install some kind of virus protection.

Here a link for McAfee Stinger:

Here a link for Avira a freeware Antivirus Program:

if none of these steps work you should save all of your important data to another drive or USB and reinstall your windows. once again installing an antivirus program directly afterwards.

hope I was able to help

I belive I have a virus, the only way i can start my laptop is thru safe mode. how can i remove the virus?

Good thing you are still able to run your laptop thru safe mode. This means that you can still do something. The best thing would be to go I am highly recommeding this antivirus even if its just online because it was able to detect and clean 450+ viruses on one of my servers/pc. If you don't want to hook it up to the internet, download the eset installer using a different PC and just copy the file thru USB.

Hope this helps.
