Hi your problem can be caused by any fuse that supplements the power to screen check voltages that feed the screen.
also can be your back light is working a way to prove your back light is , turning on the radio in a dark place and bring a flashlight and tries to see something on the display if something is provably which is only your back light and if it is not that the new screen does not works
Another reason could be that the flex cable that you are using that was connected to your old screen and this defective, also check the connection of the flex cable on the screen may be that in the process of Assembly is disconnected.
you need to open it and check the wires behind the power board sometimes those wires get loose from the solder weld the battery its ok if you have it connected to your car lighter, I had that happen to me so I opened it and found broken solder welds at the end of those wires, it is a very delicate work to get to it but I think that's what it is.
If you have tried the master reset to no avail I recommend that you send your GPS in for repair. Once you open it yourself, the warranty is null and void. If it is under one year old, it is under a full warranty. If it is over a year old, Garmin will repair it for a flat rate of $296. You will have to decide whether repair or replace is the best option for you. That said, here is the link to their repair site http://www8.garmin.com/support/outofwarranty.html
The solution to this is quite simple. Buy a new Tom Tom.
The Tom Tom units are not serviceable items. It's silly and quite honestly inexperienced of you to think they are.
If it's still under warrenty, MAYBE Tom Tom would replace the unit free of charge . But don't hold your breath. As a cracked screen wouldn't be under the fair wear and tear usage policy. So I'm afraid it's a case of dusting those cobwebs out of your wallet.
The strange thing about your question is why open up the tom tom in the first place ?
You can't possibly have a replacement screen!
Your either 11 years old or a very strange person.
Sometimes it pays to procrastinate. My 250c gps was left in a drawer for a year and a half as I hesitated to pitch it. I turned it on recently and everything works good as new. The battery was still fully charged! It must have dried out over time.
