Not scanning nikon 9000ED

Hi We have a Nikon 9000ED scanner. It doesnt seem to want to scan. The tray goes in and there is a faint rumbling noise, it says it has scanned but there is nothing there. Coulod it be that the 'belt' if there is one is slipping as that is what it sounds like. John McGregor Edinburgh College of Art Photography Department

I am having the EXACT same issue. I am using VueScan. The tray goes in , the steppers seem to be fine, then when it's trying to scan, the steppers act as though they are underpowered and make a disconcerting rumbling noise but the tray doesn't move. This just suddenly cropped up, I never move or use this thing.

Scanner doesn't recognise their is a slide loaded in the slide holder

The first thing I'd try is to run the scanner with the Nikon software. When you power on the scanner it goes through a variety of checks, and finally you should have a silent scanner with a solid green light at the front. Start the Nikon software and wait until it finds the scanner, if it doesn't you have a hardware problem with the scanner.

If it goes well to this point insert a card or plastic mounted slide and hit Preview. The scanner should then create and image you see on screen. Next step would be to make a scan. If the slide you're trying to scan isn't card or plastic mounted you'll need the Nikon made carrier.

Hope this helps.

Hi

Download the Nikon scan application here: Nikon Scan

There is also a firmware update for this model. After installing the Nicon Scan software that includes the scanner driver (ensure that scanner is recognized), do the firmware update.
Follow instructions on site and do not interrupt firmware update procedure, or that may damage the scanner.

Hi, I have the same problem. I am running on the same computer with the same software Nikon Scan without problems. Found out that the problem happens mostly when a crop is selected that just eliminates the scanning frame. Without crop mostly OK. However no reason why and no real solution

Nikon Scan doesn't recognize scanner

I have the same problem (on XP, Nikon Scan 3.1.2) ... IF I turn the scanner on before the computer (or turn the scanner on and then reboot) then Nikon Scan recognizes it. Can't say I'm happy with the solution, but it works consistently for me.

Huge difference in film scanning quality

For ARCHIVAL quality scans, there is no comparison. The Nikon wins hands-down. For making small prints and web sharing, either will work fine.
