My girlfriend was doing a factory restart and cancelled it halfway through, now all she gets when she turns on her laptop is a black screen with the message bootmrg is missing press ctrl+alt+delete to restart but everytime she does its appears to start booting but after a few seconds goes back to the message again,i have watched many videos about this and have a good idea of how to fix if the recovery disk would load up but it does not, nothing happens when the disk is inserted.it seems not to run from the cd dvd rom drive.Any help would be appreciated,i have seen a couple of videos with people having the same problem but no solution was offered. Its a Toshiba model-Satellite C660-2E1 with Windows 7 OS
I suggest that you perform a Startup Repair.
Method 1: Startup Repair
1. Please insert the Windows Vista/7 DVD and reboot the computer.
2. When we are prompted to press a key to boot from the DVD, please press Enter or the space bar.
3. Choose your language settings, and then click Next.
4. Click Repair your computer.
5. Select the operating system you want to repair, and then click Next.
6. On the System Recovery Options menu, click Startup Repair. Startup
Repair might prompt you to make choices as it tries to fix the problem,
and if necessary, it might restart your computer as it makes repairs.

You can also try "Rebuild BCD".
Method 2: Rebuild BCD
1. Put the Windows Vista/7 installation disc in the disc drive, and then start the computer.
2. Press a key when the message indicating "Press any key to boot from CD or DVD ...". appears.
3. Select a language, a time, a currency, and a keyboard or another input method, and then click Next.
4. Click Repair your computer.
5. (Click the operating system that you want to repair), and then click Next.
6. In the System Recovery Options dialog box, click Command Prompt.
7. Type bcdboot c:\windows /l en-us, and then press ENTER.
Note: C:\ should be changed to the default partition you installed Windows Vista/7.

SOURCE: NTLDR Missing, Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart
What happened is when you changed the drive letters you switched one that should not have been changed.... You need to change it back so the original C: is C:
Because the original NTLDR file was on the C: drive which is the Windows XP Boot Loader and when you swapped it it couldnt find the ntldr on the new C:
From my opinion the only way to switch it back is to reinstall the OS onto the drive you want to be C:

Hi,
Make sure no external devices are connected while starting Computer if connected then unplug the off.
if still your PC asks for CD then insert it and but it on normal mode.
once your PC completely started then Go to Start>run
then
type in "sfc /scannow" without quotes then hit enter.
Note: your OS disk must be inserted on Cd/DVD drive before you hit the enter.
and there is space between SFC and / once.
once you hit enter you will see following pane
and let it run until it's completed.
once you are done reboot your system.
please post back if it makes any changes and rate all answers.
Good luck.

Is the disk you have xp pro? If not, just do the xp home or whatever is on the disk. You may have to format your hard drive to clear it to accept the windows. Get plenty of advise before you do anything permanent like formating your hard drive. Get any factory disks that you can that will have your bios on them.
SOURCE: Can't boot with Cd-Rom unable to install windows XP
Well, maybe I can try, thus in your bios setting you can boot using usb cdrom? Or maybe its time to change your cdrom drive already. If you can borrow a good spare cdrom. Take this in for the meantime in exchange for your installed cdrom. Maybe your cdrom drive is faulty. Then if this is ok, it is now easy for you to get on.
Second option, you can take out your harddrive prime it, then have a partition (say d:\) with a copy of full copy of xp installer, and other important installer just have it foldered. Then I assume you can boot using a floppy drive with win98 rescue disk. After booting goto harddrive partition with xp installer. then click setup and set it up in c:\ . Then your go other software, installed it manually.
I do this coz it much faster to installed using harddrive and also it is only in xp.
Hope this helps. comments if I miss something.
