    My Magellan 760 also froze when calculating a route. The problem turned out to be a corrupted disk. The solution was to connect the GPS to my PC and run Norton Disk Doctor with "examine free space" selected. This found and corrected over 15 MB of file fragments that were in error. How it got damaged in the first place is a mystery but it runs perfectly now.
    Hope this works for you.

At the user menu upon boot, press the zoom out key and the repeat button at the same time. Select Reset GPS data, let the unit reboot, then check the status. -Daniel

I've tried alot of the suggestions (and a few more) to no evail.

I've reset it using several 'hidden menus' found within the system. I've even copied all of the software from the unit to my PC, reformatted the HDD on the unit, and reinstalled the software (I do this for a living, it's ok) and the unit works just as it did before reformatting the HDD.

I'm not sure what else to do with this thing besides smash it on YouTube in an attempt to steer people from buying Magellan :(

I called Magellan as this is barely a year and a half old, and they aren't standing behind their own product now. They tried to get me to buy a newer model and said they're not repairing these. They didn't even walk me through trying anything.

I've been to the menu's found by holding REPEAT & - key while in User selection mode as well as the one from pressing REPEAT, - and + in the main menu. I've Cleared the A12 memory on this thing too...hoping it would force it to connect and dl the goods...and nothing (and yes, I've removed/replaced the antenna).

Anyone have any other suggestions? I'm desperate as I spent $300 bucks for this thing and don't have another $300 to shell out right now. My wife uses this as we just moved and don't know the area. Thing just up and died on us :(

This hot key got me to the area where all the troubleshooting for the gps data, hard drive and other items for troubleshooting were present. I did all the tests, but this recommenation most likely fixed it. I am not happy with magellan tech support...they just told me my unit was bad and to ship it to them for a fix that would cost $166 dollars...or I could buy a replacement unit for $200. what a bunch of crooks. I might not ever buy a magellen again, but at least my initial investment in this magellan will work for the time being. Thankyou DanEz007, you were right on the money.

Did you try a reset. There is a hard reset button under the sticker at the bottom of the unit. It is located directly under the check mark on the sticker. It will clear out all you favorites etc.. so copy them first if needed. Gently push the reset and it will reboot and ask to confirm and choose yes. See if this works
I will attach Garmins contact info. Thanks for using FixYa.

Hello,

the problem is actually a software issue and since resetting does not solve the problem,I think updating the deice should solve the problem. Update is just like reinstall the system software of the unit and it might get things fixed.

To perform update, follow the below procedures;

1. Plug one end of the USB cable into your GPS and the other end into your desktop or laptop computer. The GPS device will load the appropriate driver automatically, and a message on your GPS tells you that it is connected to your computer via USB.

2. Open your Internet browser of choice and type in the following web address: http://www8.garmin.com/support/collection.jsp?product=999-99999-27

3. Download the appropriate version of the software for your computer (Windows or Apple) and Install the WebUpdater by following the wizard (accept defaults).

4. Click "Start," "Programs," "Garmin" and " WebUpdater" to update your firmware and your maps. Periodically check and make sure your software is current.

If the computer does not recognize the Gps, you can try the below procedure;

With the unit OFF, hold your right thumb on the Upper, Left part of the screen and plug the USB plug from your computer into the back of your GPS. The unit should boot up and stop at the screen where it shows a little computer, wire, and little GPS. Your computer should now show the GPS as connected. Only now you can pull your thumb from the screen.

Then use Webupdater to upload 4.40 to your GPS.

Hopefully, the above should be helpful

Good luck.

No signal in two units, did reset with magellan tech service, still gets stuck in the same location and no signal

Plug it in, turn it on and let it sit out in the open. If the unit is working at all, it will eventually find and lock onto the satellites. The 760 I'm using now came from California and it took over 2 hours to lock on. When I start a trip now, I let it sit before starting to drive and it locks on in just a few minutes.

Hmmm, It has a stop navigation button, and it needs time and line of sight to the satellites to figure out where it is....somewhere in that fine manual that came with the device you can expand your knowledge of the fine workings of this nifty piece of electronics!

Same problems, you have to update as far as I know and you have to update every year otherwise it will start to freeze up. It's a rip off because it's $99 a year. Does anyone know if the other GPS companies do this?

Trouble Acquiring Satellites

This can be easily fixed....
I had the same problem, I returned first piece and exchanged for the second. Had the same problem with second and took back to Circuit city. The GPS guys took out 3rd one for me and had same problem. Then the manager came who has been using these for couple of years and tried to set the home location 3 times and it worked 3rd time. He did the same for the second returned piece and it also worked. He says since these pieces are programmed for Kansas we need to give 3-4 tried before the piece first 'locates' satellite and then acquires satellite. After the the piece just turned out to be awesome.
