Canon SD450 Computer does not recognize camera

I have probably 500 downloaded phots from this camera and then one day I hooked up to the computer and the wizard didn't pop up and I tried to manually download and I can not get the computer to "see" the camera? Have tried all the obvious stuff, this kinda makes the whole camera useless if I can not get the photos off the camera? Help me...somebody!

Re: Canon SD450 Computer does not recognize camera

Yes, there is a way to "reset" the wizard so that it comes on again. But I forget how. Instead you can click on "my computer" and you will see your camera listed there, along with other drives like the C. If you don't see it, then you need to probably turn the camera on, or there's a setting on your camera for transferring images. If that doesn't help, plan B would be to purchase a card reader that hooks up to the 'puter that you'll have slipped in your cameras memory card. You may get the wizard, or just go to "my computer" again & located the memory card there.

Is the canon powershot sd450 compatible with windows 7 operating system

The camera doesn't care what operating system you have on your computer. It'll work fine with no computer at all, for that matter.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program, such as Windows Photo Gallery or Picasa ( ).

When I try to download the pictures, the camera just turns off instead of initiating download

First download the latest drivers for your camera, then turn camera on, then hook to USB. (camera screen will look black) while it is hooked to pc.
Then transfer your pictures or sync device with media player

My computer does not reconize my camera when I try to down load pictures with my zoom browser. The camera is a Canon PowerShot SD450 Digitial Elph

You need to install the drivers for your camcorder, before you conncet your camcorder to your PC.

The drivers are in the CD which came with your camcorder. follow these steps

1- inser the CD( If you do not have your CD go the link below to download it
2- select install drivers
3- after drivers are installed, Connect your camcorder to your PC, turn it on and follow the screen untill it states your camcorder is installed and ready
4- Now if you click start, then computer you should see an icon which has all or part of canon powershot SD450. Double click on this icon. You would see one or more folders with your pictures and videos stored in it.

You may now download, copy, delete etc all of them.

Cannot download pictures using zoom browser ex with my camera Canon SD450 in my Wwindows Vista laptop. Laptop doesn't open automatically the download window as in with XP. Also, I cannot open Canon Camera...

Camera direct to computer connections are notoriously problematic. (Lousy with bugs etc.) I avoid the problem entirely by using a card reader ($15-20) combined with Picasa3 (free software from Google). Remove card from camera and insert into card reader, connect to computer via USB and download images with Picasa3. Works great and is relatively cheap.

For Windows XP you actually don't need to install anything to connect your Canon Ixus to your computer.

You can download other Canon software from here

Same thing happened to my Powersgot SD450. I'll tell you what the Best Buy Geek Squad guy told me: If it's off warranty, the repair will be about as much as a new camera. But, for $20, you can buy a USB memory card reader that will still read the card. I bought the card reader. It works great.
