Question about Whirlpool Gold White-on-White 21.9 cu. ft. Conquest Side-By-Side Refrigerator with Ice and Water GD2SHAXLQ Side by Side Refrigerator
I have a whirlpool,side-by-side, refrigerator that has is dispensing bad water quality. I have only had the refrigerator for 4 months and it worked fine for the first 2 months or so. We have already had 2 technicians come out and the first one told us, it was due to the water line. We changed that and still the same problem. We also changed the filter on the refrigerator. We suspect something is wrong with the water reservoir inside refrigerator. I am having one more technician come out one more time, but wanted to get some input. I hope someone can help shed light on the situation.
I ended up looking at trhe bottom of my resevoir tank and noticed a black soot. I ordered a replacement tank and tuibing from GE and replaced both of them. When I removed the tank and poured the water from it into a glass, it was absolutely aweful. I never had it tested but assume it was a fungus or bacteria. Like I said, it was this way from the first day I installed the refrigerator. Since I replaced the parts, the water has tasted perfect!! It was simple to replace as well. Much cheaper to do it your self than jire a tech.

First off do you have a copper line to your unit or just plastic? I have seen this type of problem before and what it was the customer used the wrong type of water line for the inlet to the refrigerator. Also there are some excellent filters out there that do not have to be put inside of the refrigerator and can go on the inlet line to take away all the nasty impurity's and odors in the water before it ever gets to your rfrigereator. So remember use copper =or a approved water inlet line that is made of a usda hygenic plastic and use a high quality foilter in line before the unit and your water problems should be taken care of. Also the typer of filters with a activated carbon agent and removes all the heavy particles in the water are usually cheaper then the one's made just for the refrigerator's model inside. and if you bypass the filter inside you also prevent the problems some other people have experenced with this set up where the water freezes in the filter and thats no good. Please rate the answer if you could please and have a great day and a Happy New Year.

I had the same problem for months. Finally decided to check out other filters...ended up buying a PUR filter from Target for way less than original filter and water tastes PURfect! Of course you'll have to see if they make a filter for your model fridge. You could also check Brita (or Britta) they make them for some refers too. I would check their websites for compatability. ü

I found that with the units age, and if you do not use enough water regularly, it gets stale and develops an odd taste. Almost tinny, like old food in the freezer/ Filters won't help, because the problem is in the tank of the refrigerator.
