What new HDD will match my Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 8?
I want to install a bigger HDD as a slave to the original Maxtor that
came with my HP d530 CMT. But my PC didn't come with documentation and
I can't find info on the net what mobo it has. So I don't know what
HDD is supported or compatible. The Maxtor is a DiamondMax Plus 8
Question: (1) Can I install a SATA HDD with a 300 interface? Or am I
limited to ATA-100 EIDE drives? My Tigerdirect.ca supplier doesn't
list ATA-133 HDD to match my current Maxtor. (2) What's the biggest/fastest/bestest HDD I can use as a secondary in my d530 CMT? Thanks, Mark

You can use any size HDD in your computer as a slave and it does not have to be an exact match for the maxtor. You will however need the make sure that the connections on the new drive match. For example SATA drives will not attache to an IDE cable and vice versa. The drive that you mentioned is an IDE style drive so unless your MOBO has SATA connectors on it you will need to buy an IDE/EIDE drive.

You must be using a USB keyboard. I suggest switch back to PS2 keyboard. Moreover, the system board supports dual channel so you should be using matched pairs plus placing them in the correct slots to enable dual channel mode. Try this and it should work without any trouble.

Answers to your questions: 1. Yes 2. Very likely 3. a Google search should show you what the connectors look like. 4 HP/Compaq do a good job of providing documentation. Go to hp.com and put in your system information. You should be able to locate motherboard diagrams there. If you can't let me know and I'll try to locate them.
2 choices for you. Get the external to run the game or 2. Add a larger hdd to the system as a slave drive leaving the smaller drive as the master. If you go the 2nd route just make sure you buy a compatible hdd. Hope this helps & please remember to rate my answer.
