Question about Webcams

Won't work on yahoo

Works by itself and on msn messenger I also have a problem with yahoo messenger. I cannot open camera source & settings. My family are unable to view my camera although we can see theres. Logitec have checked everything out for me & there is no problem with the camera. I am now using version 9 which I installed today after uninstalling previous version but the problem still remains.I have contacted Yahoo but they as yet have not responded. This all means that I cannot set my camera which is causing the problem. Must be a fault with yahoo

Try this. I have both Skype and Yahoo setupthat has to be done inorder to work properly.
Normal 0 Web Camera’s have to be setup on the program they are to be used with. Just installing the camera on your computer does not set it up to broadcast on messengers or Skype.

Each program has Options that have to be setup in order for the Audio and Video to function properly.

A. Skype Setup:

After downloading and installing Skype set it up as follows:

  1. Go to TOOLS, then OPTIONS, and click on Audio Settings and set the Microphone and Speakers to the computer Audio Card.
  2. Then click on the Video Settings.
  3. The camera if installed properly will come up and show a picture.
  4. Then on the bottom of the page click on Save.

The camera and audio should function properly. Your friends and Family will now see and talk to you.

B. Yahoo Setup:

After downloading and installing Yahoo Messenger set it up as follows:

  1. Go to Messenger at the top left and click on it.
  2. Next go down to Preferences and click on it.
  3. Next Calling and Devices on the right and set the Microphone and Speakers to the computer Audio Card.
  4. Next go to the Test Audio section and (in blue writing) click on “Open the call setup assistant” and follow the instructions on the left window.

When done both the Audio and Video will function properly so you can chat and see family or friends you are connected to.
Hope this is of some help to you. Bud

Once you have your webcam working you need to configure it to the chat program
Windows Live Messenger
Test your webcam here to make sure it broadcasts ok - Hit 'Allow' in the top window and check your cam in the left hand panel.

http://www.testmycam.com/

Having proved your cam is working ,you can configure it to WLM (MSN)

CONFIGURE SOFTWARE to MSN
Its good practice to disconnect and re-connect your webcam before you start - if you have been using it elsewhere the MSN software may have difficulty in locating it, even if you exited the previous program correctly.
The reason being, the webcam software can remain hooked-up to a program and needs to be rebooted.
Mine, I just unplug it from the USB and plug it back in to reboot the software.
If yours is integral with the computer you will have to re-start the computer, use a keyboard shortcut or disable / enable the webcam from the Device Manager.

Open MSN
Click 'Open Menu'
From 'Tools; navigate to, and click, 'Audio and Video setup'
Set your speakers
Click 'Test' - if OK, move on.
Set your mic as default
Use the slider to set volume and test.
Click 'Next'
This takes you to the video setup
Your webcam should be broadcasting - (if not - make sure the webcam is set as default - restart MSN)
Use 'Webcam Settings'to fine tune the picture.
Click 'Finish'

Yahoo Messenger
Plug in your webcam and visit this site - Hit 'Allow' in the top window and check your cam in the left hand panel.
Do not proceed if the camera fails to work here, but concentrate on your webcam software / drivers

http://www.testmycam.com/

Having proved your cam is working ,you can configure it to Yahoo Messenger 10.

COMPATIBILITY WITH YAHOO MESSENGER

You MUST use Internet Explorer to visit this page, with your webcam plugged in, to check compatibility and automatically download the latest webcam control. Make sure your webcam broadcasts on this page before moving on

Of all the chat programs, Yahoo is the most painful software to set up but if you follow these instructions you should be ok.

INTERNET CONNECTION
Webcam connected
Open messenger - on top toolbar. Left click ( > ) Messenger > Preferences > Connection - Select 'no proxies' or 'connect direct to the internet' depending on the version of messenger you have
make sure your internet connection and country are correct in the lower two boxes > Apply > OK

TESTING
> Messenger > My webcam - the warning panel will launch, click 'OK' and your webcam will start. You should be rewarded at this stage with your happy smiling face.

SET WEBCAM DEFAULT
With webcam still running > Messenger > Preferences > Webcam Broadcast > Camera Source - set your webcam as default using dropbox. > Camera Settings - adjust settings to suit. > Apply > OK
Take a note of any additional software, if you have multiple choice for Camera Source, you may wish to uninstall any redundant webcam software later to prevent conflicts

AUDIO
Open Video and Voice - run through your default equipment and make a test call - click OK

PERMISSION OPTIONS
> Messenger > Preferences > Webcam - make your default equipment selections and who you will allow to view you > Apply > OK

PERMISSION OPTIONS
> Messenger > Preferences > Webcam - make your selections ( who you will allow to view you) > Apply > OK

IN USE
When you are both on line and wish to show your webcam > Actions > 'Invite to view my webcam'.
Messenger 10:- > Actions > More Actions > invite to view my webcam. This will launch an invitation on your contacts screen when they 'Accept' your webcam broadcast will start- There can be considerable time lag ( +1 minute) before they see you, so don't be too impatient ( You can check the status on the bottom left of your webcam panel. You can 'drag and drop' the frame to a convenient location by grabbing the top border.

Your contacts may need to configure their connection the same as INTERNET CONNECTION above (Ignoring webcam connected) if they get a "webcam not connected" message

Sometimes you may have to broadcast the 'small image' option from the 'Webcam' menu on the top of your image frames. This happens when one of you is down on resources -its like sending a large photo by email - its quicker if you cut the size down
you can zoom up to 200% from the same menu when the webcam picture comes through

Use the 'Always on top' option from the 'webcam' menu - or your image will disappear when you type a message

Won't work on yahoo

Yes, just make sure its only Yahoo since you can't use your webcam on multiple applications at the same time. Only 1 at a time.

Try this and tell me what will happen..
1. Open your main Yahoo Messenger window
2. Click on Messenger on the Menu bar and click Preferences
3. Go to Webcam option and click Camera Source
4. Check if your webcam is listed - if it is, make sure its the one selected

Then try to check if you can start your webcam on YM. Goodluck!

Webcam logitech webcam compatability issues with vista Does not want to show picture only on yahoo works on MSN

Normal 0 What it sounds like is that you have not set up the Video option in your Yahoo Messenger program. If this hasn't been done, it will not broadcast your image.
Normal 0 Here is setup Yahoo Messenger.

Which ever Messenger or Skype you are using has to be setup in order to function. All Messengers and Skype have an Audio & Video setup in them so the camera and microphone work properly with their program.
Bring up Yahoo Messenger and on the top left click on MESSENGER.
Then click on "Messenger Preferences."
Next in Category click on "Calling & Devices."
When that comes up check to make sure that Microphone is set to your audio card.
Next insure that the speakers are set to your audio card.

Then go to "Test Audio "In the Blue print "Open the call setup Assistant" When the window opens follow the instructions. When finished your camera audio should function properly.

Also you need to go to the Video setup and do the same so it will broadcast the pictures.

Hope this helps. Bud.

Yahoo messenger - Webcam is not connected

You cannot access camera source until the webcam is running in Messenger - try setting it up from scratch
1) The webcam is working outside of Messenger
2) Reboot webcam by unplugging the USB connection and inserting it again - its important if its been used elsewhere and prior to chat.
