Question about Sony GV-D800 Digital 8 TM VCR

1 Answer

Fault code possibly

When I first power up the tape will be accepted, I can either play, record, fastforward etc, for approx 5 - 10 seconds. Then the caution light starts flashing and I get a code of C31.23 in the top right of the screen. It will eject the tape if it is powered down but not when the power is on. Can anyone help? Thanks in advance

Re: fault code possibly

This is when the take up reel either stops or when the reel pulses arent been read properly, have you tried a different tape??.It can be caused by tight tape,if this doesnt work is a job for your local sony service center

Why does my vcr play, fastforward and rewind for 4 seconds then stops for no reason?

When the mechanism is damaged the VCR will attempt to play and then shut itself down to prevent any further damage. If you remove the top cover and look around inside you will probably find the cause of the failure.

Why won't older Sanyo VCR playback VHS tape on new HD-LCD TV?

The problem is not with your TV. I have had this problem as well and the older the VCR gets the harder it is for it to turn the tape. Does your VCR react the same way with other tapes? Try Fastforwarding the tape about halfway and then test it again.

Sony DSR 25, error code C3140. Any advise. Only comes up when tape is inserted.

FG fault when starting drum.
It’s very possible that you have a bad drum motor.

VCR ejecting my cassettes

Try removing the top cover & have a look to see what happens when you put the tape in & press play/rewind etc. Is the take up spool (right hand spool) turning properly or is there slack tape not being taken into the cassette? Are the heads spinning ? I think your problem is more likely to do with the tape not travelling smoothly around the tape path. Possibly the clutch gears need cleaned or the soft brakes may not be dis-engaging properly.

My RCA vcr makes noise when I fastforward or rewind

Whenever I had the problem with the "noisy spindles", I just find an old movie, damaged tape, etc but with a good [chassie] body. sometimes the spindles have too much leayway and flip-flop around. It may take more then one 'body' change, but it stops the noise when you find the right size.

F11 error message in ag dv2700 during play.

I've been working for hours on this machine, cleaning and lubricating the mechanism and trying various adjustments to fix related problems. If I recall correctly the F11 error is due to tape mistracking, indicating damage to same. Someone posted a suggestion that the F08 error indicated a drum relay problem, requiring professional servicing; but it also comes up on my machine if the tape tension is too high and the mechanism cannot overcome it when loading the tape. I only realised this after finally tracking down pretty well all of the bearings needing lubrication; then adjustments to the tape tension could be detected. I've got to the stage that my AG-DV2700 will accept tapes that have been recorded on that machine; playing them instantly, after the usual auto tape tensioning where the tape is FF a few seconds and then RW a similar amount, if the safety shutter is enagaged; and merely accepting them in the normal fashion otherwise. Up until this point it would throw up the F08 error whatever tape was put in; if you switched the recorder back on instantly the tape would slow FF, ie not its usual whirlwind winding, and be available for use after auto rewind at the end. If a tape NOT recorded on it is put in it still stops with the F08 error. I would suggest that trouble with this recorder is likely due the loading mechanism becoming stiff. All you have to do is dismantle it - but there's lots of tricky bits and bobs in there to watch out for.

Simple. The Cassette's 'Prevent Erasure' tab is missing. Just cover with Scotch tape and reload. Now try recording.

Dubbing from vcr to vcr

Connect with RCA cable to RCA jacks\plugs::
output [player] audio to INPUT [recorder]
OUTPUT [player] Video to INPUT [recorder]
Place blank tape in RECORDER, Tape that you want to record from into PLAYER.Press Record [recorder machine], wait one second, press PAUSE.( thats to give record tape "breathing" space.) Set up your player tape to start playing. When you know what you want to record, press PAUSE again to begining recording. Press PAUSE after the recorded section to install 2nd tape, etc. etc.
NOTE:: some VCRs use PAUSE 2nd time to release and continue recording, while some machines you must press RECORD button again to release PAUSE. you must expirement before begining your project.

Deck will not accept DV tape

most likely problem is a defective cassette housing. I've replaced about a dozen of these in AG-DV2500s.
