Water not coming out of faucets

The jug is full but the water doesn't seem to be making it up through the tube and out of the faucets (cold, tepid, hot).

Water not coming through faucets (hot, cold, tepid).

  • judy_sirk Jan 05, 2009

I received a solution from ginko. He said if the water isn't getting to the dispenser faucets, it could be the water pump. How much is a water pump, and how do we get the dispenser fixed?

    Thanks.

Hi
Is the faucets new, Many new faucets require some assembly before mounting to the sink; if that is the case, follow the manufacturer's directions. With most pullout sprayer faucets, the sprayer needs to be threaded through the faucet body first. Insert the rubber gasket between the base plate of the faucet and the sink top to create a watertight seal. If no gasket is provided, pack the cavity of the faucet with plumber's putty, then insert the faucet body through the holes in the sink top. Thread the mounting nuts provided onto the faucet shafts, then center the threaded shafts in the sink's holes and tighten the nuts firmly.

Many manufacturers include a special long socket specifically to aid in tightening the mounting nuts. A hole in the socket accepts the shank of a screwdriver, guiding it as you tighten the nuts. If you're mounting the faucet on an installed sink, use this method. If you're installing a pullout sprayer faucet--or a faucet with a separate sprayer--now is the time to connect the sprayer to the faucet body. Check the manufacturer's directions to see if using pipe-wrap tape for this connection is recommended.

Use an adjustable wrench to tighten the connection. Most pullout sprayer faucets and faucets with separate sprayers come with a counterweight that attaches to the sprayer hose. This weight helps retract the hose back in to the sink cabinet after you've used the sprayer. Follow the manufacturer's directions on where to secure the weight, and take care not to crimp the hose as you attach the weight. Hook up the faucet's hot and cold supply lines to the water supply shutoff valves under the sink. If necessary, gently bend the copper tubes coming out of the faucet for better access and connect flexible supply tubes to them.

Simply wrap a couple of turns of pipe-wrap tape around the threaded nipples on the valves and connect the tubes. Tighten the nuts with an adjustable wrench.

You need to ensure that all the lines are free, and that there is no obstruction.

If the water is still not coming through , then you have either a faulty valve/solenoid, or a defective water pump.

Parts must be tested and defective parts replaced.

Check also that the water is no freezing inside the hose, if you have frozen water lines then that is the reason.

If the water get up to half the way, and does not get to dispenser faucet, then it is the water pump.

If water does not pass the inlet valve, then it is a defective valve or solenoid.

PRIMO BOTTOM LOAD WATER DISPENSER, BLINKING LIGHT

We started getting a blinking light... indicating the jug needed replacement... after installing a full jug. The unit would cycle, then the red blinking light would come back on. Upon careful inspection of the feed tube and lines, it was realized that the plastic line on the intake of the pump body had been inadvertently pulled out just slightly (presumably from jostling the jug around during replacement). I believe that this breaks the seal the unit requires for suction, and caused the fault. I simply pushed the (white) plastic line back into pump body and heard an audible 'click'. Unit works fine now. I hope this helps, as these units are not exactly cheap.

My reliance natural gas water heater overheats causing scalding water to come out of my faucets. I have had authorized service companies come out three times to replace and retrofit different controls and...

Information below is for tank-type electric or gas heater only.

There is a condition called stacking.
This might apply to your water heater or not.
Having authorized service people to your house 3 times suggests more complicated mix of problems.

Stacking is caused when there are repeated short draws of hot water.
As you know, each time any hot water is drawn out of faucet, cold water immediately enters bottom of tank through the dip tube. The dip tube is connected to cold water inlet and runs to bottom of tank.
So all cold water enters bottom of tank close to the gas water heater thermostat.
See illustration of dip tube, that also shows copper thermostat sticking into tank that is connected to gas valve.
http://waterheatertimer.org/Clean-sediment-out-of-water-heater.html#flushelectric

Let's say your water heater if fully heated and burner is off.
A short draw of hot water causes cold water to enter tank.
Another short draw. And then another short draw, each draw happens close to same time as other draws.
Water at top of tank is plenty hot, but bursts of cold water get near thermostat and cause thermostat to turn on burner.
Burner heats water and more hot water rises to top of tank. Water at top of tank becomes overheated each time stacking occurs.

Again, a stacking situation may not be the cause of your problem.
However, remember if single-handled faucet is opened straight upward, then that draws both hot and cold water. And cold water immediately enters tank.
Only when the single-handled faucet is lifted with the handle all the way to the right, does it draw only cold water. Even so, some single-handled faucets have bleed-over between hot and cold sides, so hot water is drawn anyway.

Another possibility is that the dip tube ends at or near thermostat, instead of going all the way to bottom of tank. The dip tube should go straight down from cold water inlet, but dip tubes are made of plastic, and some self-cleaning tanks have a curved dip tube or dip tube with perforations that create currents designed to stir sediments off bottom of tank (although this is not proven to be effective deterrent to sediment formation).

I have very little water press on the hot water side

Dis-assemble the faucet to get to the valve. The handle comes off and you access the valve from the top, usually by removing a screw on ring.

You will robably find contamination in the hot side of the valve.

You can find instructions on the Moen website.

Cold water doesn't get cold

Having same issue. Water cooler about a week old, in use in a small office with about 10 people and 2 5-gal water jugs consumed weekly.

The chiller for the cold water no longer works, and they display lights on the front and on/off switch in the back no longer light up. The hot water is working, I'm wondering if there is a potential recall issue with the unit.

The correct way to start the wash cycle

we have just purchased a Fagor dishwasher also - the instruction manual is worthless.

in regards to the 2 thin tubes, we just inserted them in the gallon jugs that the soap/rinse agents comes in and it works fine. just make sure the clear tube without the label goes in the rinse agent and the labeled tube goes in the soap jug. we did drill a hole in the top cap of the jugs and pushed the line thru and that helped keeping the tubes in the jugs and minimized the mess if the jugs fell over.

in regards to the temperature problem, we found that running it thru a couple of cycles before you start the actual dishes helped get the water temperature up faster. it seems to like to start with normal tap hot water first, so the 1st couple of cycles get the cold water out of the line.
