Question about IOGear COMBO ION GHD135C160 160 GB Hard Drive

1 Answer

Seems to be resetting itself

I have about 30 G worth of pictures on my ION Hard Drive (160 G). All of a sudden I cannot access those pictures. It seems that every couple of minutes, I hear a click like it is power cycling. I have tried "dir" on the drive and my computer says it cannot find the path. When I try to access via Windows Explorer, I get a message saying that the drive is empty. I have put the drive on another computer and tried accessing it there. In this instance I get a blank screen.

Is my data gone or do I need a data recovery service?

Lego MindStorms Rechargeable Li-Ion Batteries Have Completely Stopped Working

Were the batteries still under warranty? Some rechargeable batteries just don't have a long life. It is worth the initial investment to buy top of the line batteries in the first place. They cost nearly double, but last 4 to 6 times longer. murf427

Won't see hard drive

Try just removing both cables from the back of the hard drive for about 30 seconds then plug them back in.

Check inside your bios for Large Drive Support or AHCI. If you see AHCI try changing it's setting and see if the drive is recognized. I've seen many times where just changing the AHCI makes the drive suddenly appear.

My computer drive crashed. How can I retrieve the data?

If the operating system program was all that crashed, then yes, you may be able to recover data. If the hard drive itself failed totally, then your only possible option is to take it to a data recovery specialist. They can often recover data off these devices as they have special tools and software to do it. They are expensive, though, so unless the data you are looking to recover is very important to you, it;s probably not worth the cost. Now if the hard rive itself still runs, but just won't run Windows, you can remove the hard drive and connect to to another PC as an add-on drive and access the files that way.

My USB port on the hard drive seems to have broken off inside. What can I do? There is another DC port next to it, is there any way of connecting the hard drive to my laptop via this?

Disassemble the enclosure, and remove the disk-drive.
Purchase a new "empty" enclosure, for about $30, and "transplant" your disk-drive into the new enclosure. All your files will be accessible.

We've been using the MN-500 router for over 5 years without issue. Recently, the signal strength seems to have diminished. Router is in the basement. We used to be able to access from our first and second...

This is a common problem. There are two ways on how to fix this. First, update the firmware of your router. You can download the firmware from Microsoft download site.

Before you install the router's firmware, you must do a hard reset. Press the reset button at the back of the router for 30 seconds then unplug the power for another 30 seconds before you plug it back in.

Access the router's admin page through http://192.168.1.1 and look for firmware update settings.
After successfully updating the firmware, you must do a hard reset again. Reset for 30 seconds then power cycle it.

2nd

In fixing low signal strength, you'll just need to change the wireless channel on the router's admin page. Access the router's admin page through http://192.168.1.1 and look for wireless tab, change the channel to 11 and save the settings. If you have cordless phone you need to relocate its base away from the router.

Maxtor 160G hard drive - access denied

The drive is dead. Here is a solution that is not guaranteed to work but worth a try. Place the drive into a Ziploc bag and then place that into 2nd Ziploc bag, place into the freezer for 48 hours allowing the drive to get good and cold, once the drive is cold before removing from the freezer get computer ready to back up the files needed on the drive. I have had this work but only for about 30 minutes at a time max so plan on 15 - 20 as your target. Also keep in mind I have never had this work more than once so target critical files first. If this does work please rate.....

Distorted sound quality randomly

My first thought would be the rubber drive belt, as it gets hotter it might get a little bit stretchy and then when you give it a break it gets less stretchy [make sense ] but thats only my guess as i,ve had turntables for over 25 yrs , but then that wouldnt account for the mettalic sound, that would only be if the platter was slightly warped and hitting the chassis [the main unit ]

My Computer doesn't recognize Ion 320 GB Harddrive w/Tri select

This isn't a solution but might help...

I have the same drive... with mine it recognizes sometimes but usually freezes my computer when I try to write to the drive. I thought it was the actual hard drive, but that works fine when installed in my tower... I now notice that one of the small components, component L14, is actullay missing a corner!!!! Like it chipped off! I'm blaming that. It seems to be part of the usb/firewire section of the mainboard. I'd like to replace it... does anyone know what that component is?
