Try this

  1. Power off the computer
  2. Remove the DIMM cover on the bottom side of the computer.
  3. Short-circuit the two password pads or put a jumper on the contacts to short the circuit.
  4. Under the short-circuit condition, power on the computer and wait until the POST ends. After the POST ends, the password prompt does not appear. The power-on password is removed.
  5. Reinstall the DIMM cover.

Remove the CMOS battery, POP will be vanished right away. But after that, you have to enter BIOS to set the time/date, otherwise laptop won't boot.
if that doesnt work goto

thanks.

try this first before you reboot it.

    1. Turn off the computer.
    2. Remove the battery pack.
    3. Remove the backup battery
    4. Turn on the computer and wait until the POST ends. After the POST ends, the password prompt does not appear. The POP has been removed.
    5. Reinstall the backup battery and the battery pack.
      Note:
Some ThinkPad systems have the ability to reset the Power-on passwords in the ThinkPad BIOS setup utility if a Supervisor password has been set.

if this doesn't work then do the reboot. good luck have a nice day

It shows that your keypad has locked and you you need to unlock by rescaning your fingger scan:-
you turn your computer on it will sit and wait for you to scan your finger before it will even start to boot.  So for the ultimate security use both the Power Up and Windows logon passwords/fingerscan.

Could you explain what the symbol of a closed padlock with the figure 1 beside it on the Touch Sensitive Control area indicates?

Hello Jack, I believe that the symbol means that your number lock is turned on. The way it got turned was at least two ways that I can think of. 1. The computer's BIOS is configured to turn it on when powered up. 2. You may have done this yourself by accident. The Num lock is also activated by a function key combination on the keyboard. To turn the lock on or off you locate the FN key at the bottom left side of your keyboard. Now on the top row of keys locate a shadowy outline of the words NUM LOCK. Press and hold the FN key and tap the NUM LOCK key. The light should go out. If there are further problems please return and post them here.

What do the lighted icons stand for at the top of the keyboard? One looks like a locked padlock with a 9 in it. What does it mean?

That is your number lock key is turned on, which means that your 9 key keypad is ready to use. If you press the number lock key on your keyboard the light will go away but your 9 key numeric keyboard won't work until you press the number lock key again.

How to remove battery from compaq presario 2100

Hello there,
There should also be a switch to lock or unlock the battery.
It will show a little padlock. Turn it to the symbol with the padlock open, then pull the slide release and the battery should come out.

Thanks,
