You will need to contact Sony support directly to get this issue resolved. Likely the USB port is working, but there is a glitch in the software of the TV that makes it freeze. The fact that it freezes, means the port IS probably WORKING.

Firstly check if the mp3 file has solo by playing it else ever , then on the mp3 player in the equaliser or audio settings try the default settings or normal modes. And then try playing it.
The problem lools like the MP-GT1 is drawing to much current from the USB port. Try using a lead from a 2 1/2" external Hard Drive that has 2 USB plugs to connect the MP-GT1 to the PC. The MP-GT1 can then source 1000ma of current for charging.
