Side by side makes a whistling sound--Model RS2630
I have a Samsung refrigerator that bought almost 4 years ago. It's making a whistling sound intermittantly. Do you remember when we were kids and we would blow over the top of a Coke bottle? Well, that's what it sounds like--very strange. It isn't constant.

I have the same frig-- The sound is coming from the litttle fan behind the frid. Take the bottom silver cover off and you will see the fan in a plactic white frame thing. Unplug it and then put a little oil inside the fan motor-- (oil based solvent). You may have to take it out of the plastic frame. To get the oil into the motor really good. Just use some 3 in 1 oil or wd-40. You will probably have to repeat this every couple of months. But it gets rid of that awful nosie. I also found that if you give the frig more air to circulate than the oil will last longer. Meaning don't put the frig so close to the wall. Oh please remember to unplug the frig first. I hope this helps.

is this a loud whistling, like a dying bird stuck in your freezer, or is this a lower pitched, sort of gentle whistling sound. If its the former, you likely have a faulty freezer fan motor. replace
if its the latter, sounds like you may have a issue with the door damper, which allows the air flow from the freezer into the refrigerator. However, assuming you dont have any cooling problems, you didnt mention if you do, it may simply be a normal occurance, as some makes and models open and close this damper door automatically, and when it is closed, can sometimes cause a low whistling noise
If it's a whistle, or chirp like sound, then find what is rubbing together to cause the noise. If it is a low pumping sound that seems to be coming from internal to the compressor, then that is the way they sound.
I might caution you, if the tech's that are putting R-12 in the system are doing so through clamp on type service ports, they are violating the EPA mandate for the type of equipment used to service A/C and refrigeration equipment. Besides the fact that it will continue to leak because the type of fittings used will not hold R-12.
With you model and brand I would want to check the voltage on the fan and shaft play. Meaning the fan may be going bad or the voltage being altered at the motherboard. I do know your model with the control board that it has if a fan becomes defective the board is also affected. If the fan goes bad and replaced it is very possible that the board will fail and cause the new fan to fail. If you need help with diagnostics please let me know, Thanks, Sea breeze
I'm not sure where you can go for reviews so I will give my own. I work on all brands of refrigerators and this one is a great model. It is made by Whirlpool who in my opinion make the best refrigerators. Whirlpool uses the best quality compressor as well as other parts. Most models have what would be considered a "common problem" and this one doesn't have any that I can think of. The brands I would stay away from are Samsung and LG. Whirlpool now owns Maytag, Amana, Kitchenaid, & Jenn-air and they can do this because they make great products. You might look for reviews on Whirlpool if your not having luck finding anything on this particular model. Would appreciate a solved rating for expert advice.
Hi, had the same problem with my RS21DCNS engineer came and made a modification to drain hole (made the hole bigger!) this allows for a little more ice to form without causing the horrid noise. A new backplate was ordered as all new models have a larger hole in the backplate already. It only takes a few mins and it under guarantee if you bought less than 2 yrs ago, but you will have to empty fridge side to allow them to get to inside at the back. Good luck.
